The Bengals thought they’d found a defensive tackle to replace Geno Atkins on the 53-man roster when they announced the signing of Christo Bilukidi on Monday.

That signing was nullified later in the day, however, because Bilukidi, who is Canadian, didn’t have the proper documentation to work in the United States. He’ll be eligible to sign with a team once he gets the paperwork sorted out, but the Bengals have decided to move in a different direction.

And they’ve decided to buy American. The team announced that they have signed Kheeston Randall, a 2012 seventh-round pick of the Dolphins and a proud product of Beaumont, Texas.

Randall had eight tackles in 12 games for the Dolphins last season and failed to make the team out of training camp this summer. He’ll give them some depth behind Domata Peko and Devon Still, who will need to do most of the heavy lifting on the interior of the line with Atkins lost for the season.
