Last week, running back Cierre Wood was getting consideration from other teams in the form of tryouts but he wasn’t able to land himself a job.

That’s changed this week. Wood, who was cut by the Texans along with linebackers Sam Montgomery and Willie Jefferson for violating team rules, has signed on to join the Patriots practice squad.

When the three players were released, there were allegations that they were caught smoking marijuana. The players have denied those allegations and Wood reportedly notified teams that he passed a drug test taken in coordination with the NFLPA on the day he was released.

Wood made the Texans as an undrafted free agent out of Notre Dame and ran three times for nine yards before getting his walking papers. The Patriots have Stevan Ridley, Brandon Bolden, LeGarrette Blount and Leon Washington on the active roster at running back with Shane Vereen nearing a return from the wrist injury that sent him for a temporary stay on injured reserve.
