With first round pick Ziggy Ansah hampered by a sprained left ankle, the Detroit Lions have signed defensive end Austen Lane to help bolster depth along the defensive line.

According to Dave Birkett of the Detroit Free Press, the Lions signed Lane to a one-year deal.

Ansah suffered the ankle injury in the Lions’ victory over the Dallas Cowboys two weeks ago. He was still seen utilizing a walking boot in the team’s locker room on Tuesday. With Jason Jones lost for the year and Nick Fairley also banged up, the Lions needed additional help up front.

Lane spent training camp with the Kansas City Chiefs after playing his first three seasons for the Jacksonville Jaguars. Lane appeared in 28 games for the Jaguars and recorded 66 tackles with three sacks and a forced fumble. Lane was released by the Chiefs during final cuts in August.
