Marvin Austin’s Cowboys career ends after one game

Marvin Austin AP

Things have gotten so ridiculous for the Cowboys defensive line this year that even the injury replacements need injury replacements now.

The Cowboys waived-injured Marvin Austin Tuesday because of a back injury that would have kept him out a few weeks, according to Todd Archer of ESPNDallas.com

Austin, a former second-round pick of the Giants, played one game for the Cowboys. He was inactive Sunday against the Vikings after he coudn’t finish last Friday’s practice, and had an MRI Monday.

That leaves a vacant roster spot they’ll probably have to use on another defensive tackle, since they have just three on the roster and two of them are hurt. Jason Hatcher is dealing with a stinger and Nick Hayden has a back issue.

Drake Nevis, the other one, is presently buying more insurance.

    Pawnjockey,
Really Floyd? Guy has been a non-factor all season and Frederick an above average starter. Try again.

This guys pro career was ruined by crap college rules that treat major program players like indentured servants.

The ” most mediocre franchise in sports”…

He doesn’t want to play football, man. Rivalry aside, you could have gone in several other directions than to waste a $750K on this uninspired clown.

Spencer, Crawford, Ratliff – gone for the year. Demarcus – 3-4 games. Austin – 1 and done. Every week I hear a new name. And thats just on the D-line.

Travis Frederick is playing very well … Oline was the issue … Injuries is why the cowboys seem weak up front !

    XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX

Not really. 1 sack and 3 tackles in 8 games?

more than happy with Travis Fredrick and Terrance Williams, whom Dallas got with the extra pick they got from the 9ers.

Laugh about Sharrif Floyd now but he’ll be dominant in a few years.

  16. gorilladunk says: Nov 5, 2013 6:20 PM

@pawnjockey….Floyd for Travis Frederick AND Terrance Williams? I don’ think so….especially since Floyd can barely get on the field for the hapless Vikes!

Sharrif Floyd = Non-Factor in the NFL.

  18. pawnjockey1 says: Nov 5, 2013 6:32 PM

    Bigdinla,
are you also going to sing the praises of Jerry for taking the solid but unspectacular Greg Ellis back in ’98 to show how much “smarter” he was by passing on the game changer Moss? The point is Jerry could have drafted Sharrif Floyd AND Frederick but instead showed everyone once again how much “smarter” he is. And now the glaring needs of the team remain unresolved due to Jones’ incompetence and pride.

I think the Floyd comment was sarcasm.

    Chicago …???

    New Orleans???

I hope that he doesn’t have maturity problems.

I would hate for Nawrocki’s character assessment of him to come to fruition without us noticing it.

The assessment: blames others for his problems.

    It’s in the 2011 issue.

  23. riekki says: Nov 5, 2013 7:01 PM

This would seem to be a perfect time to thank Mr. Austin for singlehandedly destroying the UNC football program with his moronic tweets…”Instant Karma gonna get you”

  24. Mr. Wright 212 says: Nov 5, 2013 7:20 PM

Robert Quinn’s actions actually did more damage to blow the top off of it all, but the problem with Austin has always been where his true focus was, and that’s music.

And I won’t shovel dirt on Floyd yet, for those trying to justify drafting a slightly above average center (although Frederick has been pretty damn good this year) in the 1st Round, unless he was on par to become Dermontti Dawson or one of the Pouncey brothers. Floyd is playing behind three very good tackles, and he was brought it to eventually replace Kevin Williams, not to start immediately. It was a smart move by Jones to draft a center given the line woes for Dallas, but don’t try heaping dirt on Floyd as a means of justifying what would have erstwhile been a foolish move by drafting a dime a dozen center instead of a guy who will eventually be a dominant defensive tackle.

Is Jay Ratliff still available to sign?
