Packers make Scott Tolzien move official

Reports that the Packers would promote quarterback Scott Tolzien from their practice squad started shortly after Aaron Rodgers was injured, although there was some thought that Green Bay might move in another direction when former backup Matt Flynn became available.

Flynn cleared waivers after being cut by the Bills, leaving him available to be signed as a free agent but the Packers have stuck to the original plan. They announced Wednesday that Tolzien has been added to the 53-man roster. The Packers had an open roster spot after activating tackle Derek Sherrod from the PUP list and placing a pair of players on injured reserve Tuesday.

According to various reports, the Packers have some worries about the state of Flynn’s arm. He’s been sidelined in each of the last two preseasons by elbow problems and his familiarity with Mike McCarthy’s system wouldn’t do the team much good if his arm isn’t healthy enough to make the necessary throws.

Tolzien, who has never played in a regular season game, is expected to back up Seneca Wallace.

Ehh start Tolzien, whaddya got to lose? Already showed how to lose at home with Seneca. Well I guess if the HC has so much confidence in Seneca well then go get that win then.

    Good for Tolzien.
I think he has the tools to make it as an NFL QB. I was sad to see him leave SF – hope it works out for the kid.

This must be a tremendously exciting time for this young man. He has an opportunity to QB the most storied franchise in all of football, and help work towards the Packers goal of winning a NFL record 14th World Championship.

    Congratulations Scott!

Boy, TT really must have moved on from Flynn. It’s like the guy is allergic to second string QBs. Then again, that may be better than Spielman’s second string QB hoarding fetish.

They doubted him in high school, they doubted him at Wisconsin and all he does is win wherever he plays. Give the kid a chance, he’s paid his dues!

If Flynn were healthy, I’m sure Green Bay would have claimed him off waivers.

Cuz the other option would be playing someone who hasn’t played any QB ever..So that’s going to be standard move in my assumptions.
