Bucs will decide on Martin by Monday, leaning IR

Buccaneers running back Doug Martin said yesterday he was holding out hope for a return from his shoulder injury.

But the Bucs also know the clock’s ticking, and won’t wait much longer.

According to Rick Stroud of the Tampa Bay Times, the Bucs will make a decision on Martin’s future prior to Monday’s game against the Dolphins, and they’re leaning toward placing him on season-ending injured reserve.

Martin didn’t practice Thursday, and hasn’t since injuring his shoulder Oct. 20. He’ll eventually need surgery to repair the damage, though he was hoping to rehab it to the point he could play.

“You know I think it’s really just going to be a medical decision,’’ Bucs coach Greg Schiano said. “At what point do you say Monday is out of the question? We’ll see. And if it is, I think it’s going to be all or nothing. It’s got to be a decision we’ve got to make. Everyone collectively has got to make a decision and we’ve got to go with it. When we make it, I’ll let you guys know and we’ll move forward with it.’’

At 0-8 and little to play for, getting him ready for next season, when there is hope, should be the priority.

Mike James is a good RB and it’ll be good for him to get a half season as starter under his belt for the future. The Dougernaut needs to shut it down, we don’t want Cadillac Williams redux.

I really thought this was a playoff team before the season started. The talent is there still. Once Schiano is gone this team will rebuild rather quickly in my opinion. Get a quality coach this time Buc fans and this team will compete.

With the way Mike James is playing, I might start him even if the Hamster was healthy. James is definitely a better pass catcher.
