The Texans don’t know for sure when head coach Gary Kubiak will return.

But they know the phones won’t stop ringing.

Since being released from the hospital after a stroke-like attack Sunday night, Kubiak has made numerous calls to offensive coordinator Rick Dennison and defensive coordinator/interim coach Wade Phillips.

Phillips said Kubiak’s advice was essentially “do what you think,” and Dennison laughed and said he can’t get all the calls returned.

“He’s more or less just making sure everything’s OK around here,” Dennison said, via Brian Smith of the Houston Chronicle. “He’s got a great concern for the team and the players and the coaches. We just tell him to rest, relax. He’s not really brought up any football facts. He just wants to make sure everybody’s operating, everybody’s staying positive and out there grinding. He knows we’re grinding; he knows we’re grinders. Staying positive, and working with the players and keeping the players upbeat.”

While there have been reports that Kubiak could return as soon as next week, Dennison said “That might be just him talking.”

Either way, talking shop could be a good sign that Kubiak’s feeling better, after a frightening week.
