Dez Bryant: My back feels fine and I’m playing Sunday

Cowboys executive vice president Stephen Jones denied Friday that the team is worried about a disc problem in wide receiver Dez Bryant’s back.

Jones said that the team thought Bryant would be “fine” and Todd Archer of reports that Bryant had an MRI earlier this week that indicates he’s suffering from a muscular issue rather than one with a disc in his back. Bryant didn’t offer any detail on what kind of injury he’s dealing with, but he did offer all the detail that the Cowboys and their fans probably needed to hear.

“I feel good and I’m playing on Sunday,” Bryant said. “That’s all y’all need to know.”

It’s difficult to overstate Bryant’s importance to the Cowboys offense and it would be impossible for them to replace what he brings to the field, so this is obviously good news for their chances to avoid a return to the .500 record they’ve finished with in each of the last two seasons. Their defense will have a hard time stopping the Saints offense, but Bryant’s presence in the lineup will help them try to keep pace on the scoreboard.
