Reggie Wayne still helping the Colts after injury

Reggie Wayne might not be able to help the Colts in the way they’re accustomed to, but that doesn’t mean he’s not helping.

Coach Chuck Pagano said that Wayne was juggling his rehab and an “assistant wide receivers coach” role after tearing his ACL. It seemed like a joke, but offensive coordinator Pep Hamilton said Wayne was extremely involved during last week’s comeback win over the Texans, helping him and quarterback Andrew Luck dissect the Texans’ defensive tendencies during the game.

He was into it,” Hamilton said, via Stephen Holder of the Indianapolis Star. “In between series, I would pass over the [overhead] picture book and ask his opinion. And of course, during the series, he had a job. His job was to watch their slot coverage and give myself and Andrew [Luck] feedback between series. Reggie, he loves this game, he loves the horseshoe and it’s awesome that he’s still around even under the circumstances.”

Hamilton’s smart to lean on Wayne’s expertise, and their young receivers would be wise to do the same. Though T.Y. Hilton had three second-half touchdowns last week, it’s still a group seeking consistency, the kind that’s only created over years of work.

Work like Wayne’s done, and is willing to share.

Reggie had a job during the game? Because I watched him leave the field in the 2nd quarter.
