In some ways, the Chargers are executing a sound strategy in Sunday’s game vs. Denver.

The Chargers have held the ball for most of the first half. To this point, Denver has had the ball for a little more than six minutes.

The problem is, the Broncos have scored two touchdowns and racked up 173 yards in those six minutes. The Chargers, by contrast, have just two field goals to show for their efforts.

The Broncos scored the game’s first points on a 74-yard Julius Thomas TD reception. On the play, Thomas caught a short pass and sprinted down the sideline for the touchdown. The Chargers would respond with two field goals. Then came the Broncos’ second TD, an 11-yard Peyton Manning-to-Demaryius Thomas connection.

Manning has been sharp early, completing 9-of-13 passes for 170 yards. Indeed, a bushel of field goals probably won’t cut it for the Chargers today.
