The Titans would have been in position to play for a share of first place in the AFC South with a victory on Sunday against the Jaguars, but things didn’t work out that way.
Jacksonville won its first game of the season and, predictably, it left some Titans with a bad taste in their mouths. Safety Bernard Pollard said the team should be embarrassed about losing to a team that “plain and simple” isn’t good. Tight end Delanie Walker excoriated any teammates thinking about first place when the team couldn’t take care of business against a winless team on their home field.
“It’s disgusting. I’m disappointed. I’m embarrassed. A team that’s 0-8 comes in here and beats us? Beats us on our home field, that’s 0-8, the Jaguars? Come on,” Walker said, via Terry McCormick of Titan Insider. “Talking about first place? Talking about first place? We just got whooped by the Jaguars. We ain’t talking first place no more. It’s out the window. We’ve got to come back and play the Colts. I don’t know how everybody’s gonna handle it. I mean, we lost to the Jaguars.”
Walker said that the short week of practice before Thursday’s game against the Colts would be telling about how the team responds to getting punched in the mouth. Sunday’s loss also appears to have cost the team quarterback Jake Locker, which might constitute a kick to a different part of the body for a team that had a far brighter outlook when Sunday began.
