Seneca Wallace hurts groin, Scott Tolzien in for Packers

Seneca Wallace’s start this week didn’t last long any longer than Aaron Rodgers last week.

Scott Tolzien is in the game for the Packers and Wallace is questionable to return after a groin injury. Wallace played the entire opening offensive series for the Packers and pulled up after a failed third down play that preceded kicker Mason Crosby’s miss from 53 yards on a field goal try.

Tolzien, who was promoted from the practice squad this week, is playing in a regular season game for the first time. He went 1-of-2 for eight yards on his first drive at the helm before the Packers punted the ball away.

The Eagles lead 7-0 with just under four minutes to play in the first quarter.

  7. thepftpoet says: Nov 10, 2013 1:45 PM

The Minnesota Vikings even laugh at your QB situation

  8. 84smooninlambeaunevergetsold says: Nov 10, 2013 1:45 PM

What a disaster of a team.

Why won’t FOX broadcast a real, entertaining game like the Lions/Bears?

  9. pacificnw7722 says: Nov 10, 2013 1:46 PM

“In case of emergency break glass” and call Matt Flynn!

  10. taintedsaints2009 says: Nov 10, 2013 1:48 PM

Lmao! Nice planning teddy. The guy who threw 7 tds for you is out there but nooooooooo. Dumb dumb management there.

Tolzien is about to become a hero and legend in Packer Lore.

  12. onbucky96 says: Nov 10, 2013 1:49 PM

Maybe next year Ted Thompson will keep 3 QBs instead of 4 tight ends. In Ted we start to doubt…

  13. operwapitsai says: Nov 10, 2013 1:50 PM

that’s why we got 3 backups!!!!

  14. contra74 says: Nov 10, 2013 1:50 PM

What a circus of a team. Can they just air the bears/lions game instead? Hahaha

  15. prince5000 says: Nov 10, 2013 1:51 PM

think ya need to draft a backup next year?

  16. catfishcrusader says: Nov 10, 2013 1:54 PM

The Vikings will trade Joe Webb to the packers for their next three first round picks.

  19. thejuddstir says: Nov 10, 2013 1:57 PM

I know GB fans blindly trust Teddie Thompson but they would trust Jeff Ireland too if he had Aaron Rodgers as his QB. B.Favre and A. Rodgers have made TT and MM, not the other way around but TT finds it easy to lead his cult. It is total arrogance and poor leadership to think that your elite QB can’t experience an injury. If TT’s great stewardship of the Packers is what fuels the Packer’s success then the Pack shouldn’t have any trouble winning out this year as TT has assembled a SB team according to packer fans. We shall see but my money says Favre and Rodgers are responsible for TT’s legacy.

  20. securb2013 says: Nov 10, 2013 1:57 PM

Brett Favre just turned his cell phone off.

  21. sikoix says: Nov 10, 2013 1:58 PM

Rodgers has been pretty durable in his time with the Packers. Can’t blame TT for not spending a lot of time working on contingency plans for Rodgers getting hurt. You simply won’t be able to replace a superstar like Rodgers no matter who the backup is. The rest of the team though — feel free to blame that on TT I guess.

I would kill to be Matt Flynn. Leave for a year and bounce from team to team collecting millions and will probably end up right back where he was to a system he knows with his pals. Perfect.

  23. dannyreneau says: Nov 10, 2013 2:03 PM

Don’t see how a groin injury is possible seeing as Seneca Wallace has no balls.

  24. conormacleod says: Nov 10, 2013 2:10 PM

Not to worry. The Packers still have their crappy defense to carry them!

  25. ilovecostcobut says: Nov 10, 2013 2:10 PM

    Nice contingency planning, Ted.

That was the sound of dripping sarcasm.

  26. eagles92 says: Nov 10, 2013 2:13 PM

Nick foles is the worst qb in this game. Guy is a straight out bum. The only td he threw should of been a pick. Eagles don’t be fooled by this bum and draft a qb

  27. contra74 says: Nov 10, 2013 2:15 PM

What’s with mason crosbys pinpoint accuracy? This team is falling apart at the seams LOL

  28. gtodriver says: Nov 10, 2013 2:16 PM

Ted might neec to check the waiver wire for both a QB and a kicker…

  29. leatherface2012 says: Nov 10, 2013 2:16 PM

ahahahahahahha boy tolzien is awesome, so is mason crosby

Yep – Green Bay struggles when their best player is out due to injury. Best or one of the best QB’s in the game.

Makes it that much more laughable when teams like the Vikings lose when they HAVE their best players in. AP is one of the best RB’s to suit up but they can’t win WITH him.

Not so surprising and sad that a team loses when their best player is out.

VERY sad that a team continues to lose when their best players are on the field.

  33. fdugrad says: Nov 10, 2013 2:26 PM

I thought they brought Matt Flynn for a ‘Discount Double-Check” last week. He MUST be better than a player from the practice squad, no?

  34. 84smooninlambeaunevergetsold says: Nov 10, 2013 2:28 PM

Having to watch this terrible game, combined with having to hear Joe Buck speak, makes me want to start drinking again.

  35. allday28mvpmvp says: Nov 10, 2013 2:34 PM

Tolzeins threw a TD! But it was to an Eagles player

  36. wolfiereasonedlife says: Nov 10, 2013 2:37 PM

I don’t wish for injuries ever…but just once I want a GM to have to see an emergency QB actually have to take snaps in a game and justify not having a 3rd QB on the active roster. From what I understand it’s a free roster spot provided he doesn’t enter the game before the 4th quarter so he doesn’t count against the 46 active but does against the 53 roster which begs the question. How valuable is a 3rd QB vs. the 53rd man on the roster that is inactive on gameday?
If I am wrong about the 3rd QB counting against the gameday 46 then please compare the 3rd QB to the 46th man. Same difference if a WR is taking snaps as the emergency QB.

  37. stevenwilliams2013 says: Nov 10, 2013 2:39 PM

No matter how good your starting QB is, you NEED to have a decent back up and during the off season the Pack didn’t seem serious about finding a good back up.

  38. usdcoyotesfan says: Nov 10, 2013 2:47 PM

Not so fast, folks. Tolzien has led 3 long drives.

  39. mungman69 says: Nov 10, 2013 2:48 PM

    What a boring game.

  40. bigjim50010 says: Nov 10, 2013 2:48 PM

Must be warm enough in Landfall MN for all these viking fans to leave their trailers and get to Dorothy Day Center to use the internet.

  41. usdcoyotesfan says: Nov 10, 2013 2:49 PM

A couple times my roommate, who is an Eagles fan, has said he hopes Rodgers isn’t back this week. And Philadelphia sports fans wonder why everybody hates them.

  42. themagicfanguy says: Nov 10, 2013 2:57 PM

Almost all trolls on here lmao. When Rodgers comes back and commences destroying the rest of the division like usual the trolls will go back into hiding. Only bears/lions/queens fans get this excited in the regular season lol!

  43. gtodriver says: Nov 10, 2013 3:08 PM

That would be two INT’s for Tolzien.

And now he has to pass…

  44. sfsugator says: Nov 10, 2013 3:15 PM

Not a packer fan, but i said it last week and ill say it again why doest the packers have vince young who tore it up for em in preseason or matt flynn who they let pass through waivers. Smh

  45. gtodriver says: Nov 10, 2013 3:29 PM

If and when Rodgers comes back the Packers may already be eliminated from the playoffs.

  46. johnnyb216 says: Nov 10, 2013 3:57 PM

The dude is exactly what his record says he is. A loser.

  47. stankytoes12 says: Nov 10, 2013 7:47 PM

Why is everyone convinced good backup QBs are so common? if they were good they’d be starting for the jets or Vikings or bills or raiders or cardinals or rams or titans or Jacksonville or any team that doesn’t have a franchise QB. Tolzien really settled down towards the end of that game and did some really good things, hes got a big arm. Tolzien is a better QB than anyone on the Vikings roster. I bet hes going to be one of the better backup QBs in the NFL, now that we see the guys got an arm some poise and a week to game plan to his strengths, unlike the last 2 weeks we game played for a QB who went out on the first drive.

  48. stankytoes12 says: Nov 10, 2013 7:49 PM

And Johnnyb216, 5-4 is a winning record no? im confused, do you trolls do any sort of research before u make these comments or do you just log on comments section blind folded and start spewing trash out of your mouth?
