A banged-up Buccaneers running back corps got a lift from a fresh face, and as a result, the Buccaneers have re-taken the lead against the Dolphins on Monday night.
Bobby Rainey, whom the Buccaneers added on waivers just three weeks ago from Cleveland, scored the go-ahead one-yard TD with a little more than 10 minutes left to give the Bucs a 22-19 fourth-quarter edge in Tampa.
Rainey’s touchdown came one play after he ran off right guard for 31 yards. Rainey had relieved Brian Leonard, who has received the bulk of the carries on Monday night after Mike James departed with an ankle injury.
The 26-year-old Rainey played collegiately at Western Kentucky. He received his NFL regular-season action earlier this season with the Browns, rushing for 34 yards on 13 carries in six games. Rainey entered the NFL as with the Ravens in 2012, spending three games on the roster before being placed on injured reserve with a knee injury.
