Brandon Marshall: Lions like our little brother

The Lions completed a season sweep of the Bears on Sunday, but that didn’t stop Bears wide receiver Brandon Marshall from coming up with a dismissive take on the team leading the NFC North.

“It’s the little brother that, big brother wants to go out and play with his friends and the little brother is annoying, [saying], ‘Hey, can I go?'” Marshall said, via ESPNChicago.com. “No, you can’t go, Detroit Lions. Sit back. Sit in your little city. Fix your financial problems and all of that, you know. You can’t come with us right now. But right now, they’ve got the best of us. They beat us twice. They swept us. But what matters is when we see them in the playoffs. It’ll be a great show. It’s gonna be tough. But I guarantee it’s not gonna go down like it did the first two games.”

That’s a rather gratuitous shot at the city of Detroit since Detroit’s bankruptcy hasn’t stopped the Lions from owning the Bears this season. Marshall was full of shots at the Lions on Monday, though. He also took a swipe at the way the Lions play on defense during his extended take on Chicago’s divisional rival.

“They’re borderline illegal. I’ll attach my name to it. I’m looking at film today, and it was kind of disgusting to see the D-line go out of their way to knock our quarterbacks down after every single play,” Marshall said. “The ball was gone. They’re pushing them down. They’re hitting them below their knees. It was kind of disgusting. It seemed like it was game planned, but it was borderline. You can’t say it was illegal. But it was definitely one of those things where you say, ‘Hey, we’ve got to pay attention to this.”

The Lions were flagged for roughing the passer twice on the final drive, including one on Willie Young that bought the Bears a second chance at a game-tying two-point conversion. The Bears couldn’t convert it, however, and another way to describe “borderline illegal” play is just calling it legal play. The Bears couldn’t stop the Lions from hitting Jay Cutler and Josh McCown all day on the way to a victory and that should be the biggest concern in Chicago whether or not they get another shot at taking the upper hand in the sibling rivalry.

The Bears did everything possible to not win that game. They easily could have won if they didn’t make terrible decision after terrible decision, not the Lions fault they were handed a win.

  2. otis52gsh says: Nov 12, 2013 7:20 AM

Take your meds and shut up Brandon. They swept us this year, or did you miss that. We have to get to the playoffs to face them again. Let’s focus on that first. Plus, don’t forget about GB, they are far from out of the race dude.

  3. acham83 says: Nov 12, 2013 7:21 AM

Playoffs. Did he mention playoffs…this boy must be off his meds……little brother just Beat you twice and if it wasnt for our “borderline” play it would’ve been alot different. This is the black and blue division you clown

  4. wabbitslayer says: Nov 12, 2013 7:21 AM

    Playoffs? You kidding me? Playoffs?

  5. elks84 says: Nov 12, 2013 7:26 AM

And the Packers are their daddy.

  6. ziggystheansah says: Nov 12, 2013 7:27 AM

Whats with these clown receivers starting drama before and after a game. First dez and now marshall. U guys will NEVER be classy calvin.
And your qb is a joke. Us lions fan warned you Suh & Fairley were going to eat Cutler. And they did.

  7. noeffinway says: Nov 12, 2013 7:27 AM

Yep, my big brother used to whine just like that when I whooped him! smh

  8. cylondetector says: Nov 12, 2013 7:27 AM

That is one of the most reprehensible comments i’ve seen a player make – ever.

Really, smack talk is fine – but trying to score points off a whole region being stuck in a financial nightmare is real low.

Two wrongs don’t make a right, but if Brandon Marshall found himself broke and out of work in a couple of years time i’d struggle to shed a tear..

  9. atleastimnotaraidersfan says: Nov 12, 2013 7:30 AM

    You stay classy Brandon.

  10. lovef111 says: Nov 12, 2013 7:30 AM

Leave the city out of it. But the Lions should haveen called for at least a couple roughing penalties. They are dirty plain and simple. Four or five personal fouls called in one game? Face mask against a receiver?!? They got away with one in Chicago because the Bears beat themselves. We can only hope the football gods set things
    straight.

  11. kilo0986 says: Nov 12, 2013 7:36 AM

    Is Marshall off his meds?

  12. matt2calvin says: Nov 12, 2013 7:36 AM

    SCOREBOARD!

Lil bro has outgrown the skinny older brother.
    Bigger – Fairley
    Badder – Shu
    Better – Stafford
    Faster – Megatron

And all of them are very young players…

This is gonna be a very competitive family for a long time.

  13. fievel03 says: Nov 12, 2013 7:37 AM

Hey Brandon? Scoreboard. Shut up and win.

  14. thekiy says: Nov 12, 2013 7:39 AM

This right here is why it’s so enjoyable to sweep the Bears: They still think it’s 1985 and that they are gods gift to football.

  15. faulkn22 says: Nov 12, 2013 7:39 AM

1st. Before listening to any of BM’s drivel, I first ask any objective NFL fan to watch the past 5 or 6 games between these two teams. The Bears have been headhunting Calvin Johnson and thankfully he is half machine and has withstood the helmet to helmet hits (many uncalled during the games).

That being said, any successful team is going to hit the other teams QB as much as possible. When they go overboard, they will be flagged (like the Lions were on Sunday, note the two chances the Bears had to win the game).

BM’s whining isn’t going to do much other than galvanize the Lions the next time they play the Bears. That and it might make them hit Cutler even more.

PS: The talk about Detroit is laughable. It has nothing to do with the football team, and Chicago’s murder rates are off of the charts.

  16. dcredz says: Nov 12, 2013 7:42 AM

Same guy we all know and love. Yup, you lost. Mock the city’s financial problems. Classy, Marshall. Real classy. You are who we thought you were, a terrible human who tries to hide it.

  17. sosuhme says: Nov 12, 2013 7:46 AM

Another thing that’s borderline is Marshall’s personality.

  18. joetoronto says: Nov 12, 2013 7:47 AM

    What an idiot.

  19. tenotnamedmiller says: Nov 12, 2013 7:49 AM

Can’t blame Marshall for noticing that Lions have sucked for the most of the past 50 years.

  20. sheik001 says: Nov 12, 2013 7:51 AM

What a big cry baby idiot. You lost yet again to Detroit so take it like a man, accept it and play better next time. To go complain about rough illegal play is a joke. To trash a a city is an even bigger joke. Have fun missing the playoffs.

  21. doctorrustbelt says: Nov 12, 2013 7:51 AM

Detroit Lions = 6’3″ 250 lb. 25 year old little brother

Chicago Bears = 4’5″ 75 lb. 45 year old older brother

  22. philliesblow says: Nov 12, 2013 7:54 AM

There’s an old saying about those that don’t learn from history are doomed to repeat it. Marshall probably isn’t aware of the significance of the term “little brother” when it comes to football in the state of Michigan. Since Michigan running back Mike Hart used that phrase about Michigan State in 2007, “Little Brother” MSU has beaten UM 5 of the last 6 times. Here’s hoping this has the same effect on the Lions.

Maybe Marshall should just worry about trying to be half the received Megatron is.

  23. kcreed75 says: Nov 12, 2013 7:55 AM

Is someone forgetting to take their meds again???

  24. chrismgillis says: Nov 12, 2013 7:55 AM

Wow. I didn’t really care for Marshall before, but now I think I hate him. what an unnecessary thing to say about the city of Detroit. He could have kept it about football, but no. He had to go and say something about things he doesn’t understand. That is just plain ignorance.

  25. detroitnorth says: Nov 12, 2013 7:56 AM

Brandon sounds a lot like Terrell Owens in Dallas (“That’s my Quarterback!!). You can almost see the tears in his eyes. I love IT!!! Someone should ask BM whether there were any asterisk’s next to the win’s over the Lions when they were missing key guys like Stafford or Jahvid. I didn’t think so. Grow a set of testicles and take the loss like a man you baby.

  26. dbarnes67 says: Nov 12, 2013 7:57 AM

Play offs? Your talking Play offs? Only way the bears see the Play offs is on the tube.
Get used to being Lion food.

  27. pastabelly says: Nov 12, 2013 8:00 AM

Brandon Marshall is like Calvin Johnson’s very little brother or the kid he stole lunch money from.

  28. burrito12 says: Nov 12, 2013 8:01 AM

And Marshall and the gummy Bears are the Packers little sister. Don’t get all excited bears fans just because you finally figured out how to beat the Pack, Rodgers will be there in week 17 to officially put the fork in your season.

  29. nps0520 says: Nov 12, 2013 8:03 AM

Quick! Somebody get Brandon Marshall a Kleenex. Little brother just turned Big brother into a sniveling crybaby.

  30. mattjay0101 says: Nov 12, 2013 8:03 AM

    Little Brothers? Financial problems? Playoffs?

Please note* Brandon Marshall has a long history of mental health issues.

    Go Lions!

  31. easyeddie says: Nov 12, 2013 8:03 AM

“But what matters is when we see them in the playoffs. It’ll be a great show.”
    ============================

Playoffs? The Bears? Quite the sense of humor BM has.

  32. thegonz13 says: Nov 12, 2013 8:04 AM

Funny how freely Marshall used the word “borderline”, considering…

  33. flickaboogie says: Nov 12, 2013 8:05 AM

    Stay classy, Loser.

  34. isphet71 says: Nov 12, 2013 8:12 AM

Marshall should probably stop whining publicly. Getting beat twice was bad enough, but this? This is priceless.

  35. larryboodry says: Nov 12, 2013 8:12 AM

Normally I would feel like maybe Marshall overstepped his bounds here, but after seeing all the cheap shots yesterday – both called and uncalled – that the Lions pulled off against us, I am all for his attitude and that he is not shying away from speaking his mind.

And hitting a Bears player 10 feet out-of-bounds is not ‘legal play’ just ’cause the refs ignored it.

So yeah, bring it on in the playoffs.

  36. takingbacksundays5 says: Nov 12, 2013 8:13 AM

    Sore loser.

  37. bullcharger says: Nov 12, 2013 8:14 AM

He should be careful. Once upon a time the Dolphins were a proud franchise winning 2 super bowls and going to a third. At the time the Patriots were laughable. Since then the Patriots have been to 7 super bowls and won 3. Nothing is certain in the NFL. The Bears could lose to the Lions for the next 10 years.

  38. thehuckster404 says: Nov 12, 2013 8:17 AM

So if I understand Brandon correctly, the Bears are like the dick older brother in that new Cadillac commercial that takes the little brothers stuff over the years. The Lions are now the younger brother that owns the Cadillac and is telling the fat older brother to go away. Got it.

  39. groleo45 says: Nov 12, 2013 8:18 AM

What kind of coward talks this smack AFTER the game? And if you didn’t like the Lions D-line smashing Cutler all day, block them.

  40. Stupid Lions Fan says: Nov 12, 2013 8:18 AM

Marshall- wipe the tears from your face and go vent at your offensive line… you know, the zilches that are responsible for all those hits… or put a flag on your QB. This is football you skirt.

  41. nwest20 says: Nov 12, 2013 8:19 AM

This coming from a guy who is a pillar if the community. Get over it and step aside, the Lions are going to be here awhile.

  42. lingsun54 says: Nov 12, 2013 8:23 AM

The Bears are a team in decline with a subpar O-line and an aging defense. They don’t match up well against the Detroit D-line.

  43. abiesbaby says: Nov 12, 2013 8:24 AM

Why is it that the biggest whiners are always wide receivers? What a loser!

  44. thetruthcampaign says: Nov 12, 2013 8:25 AM

    1. Brandon M is little bro to many WR’s, especially to Megatron. Eat it.
    2. I don’t think the Lions or their fans can do anything about the bankruptcy. Lol.
    3. Little brother grows up eventually and becomes too much to handle.
    4. Tillman illegally pulled down Bush and Megatron dangerously. 2 of the best players in the game. I’m glad Tillmans out for the year.

    Better luck next year.

  45. swaggyy says: Nov 12, 2013 8:27 AM

Little brother beat up big brother apparently.

  46. mrlaloosh says: Nov 12, 2013 8:28 AM

I thought getting Jermon Bushrod and hiring Aron Kromer was gonna solve all the Bears offensive line problems. Guess not. Lions obviously own the Bears. Marshall should were green shoes all the time.

  47. educator7 says: Nov 12, 2013 8:31 AM

I hear that DUI, domestic abuse, and assault are also “borderline illegal.”

  48. bla bla bla says: Nov 12, 2013 8:34 AM

Pretty big talk for a guy that’s won a grand total of nothing.

  49. detroit20iron says: Nov 12, 2013 8:37 AM

    Sour grapes.

  50. big64d says: Nov 12, 2013 8:37 AM

Its too bad for the Bears that the Lions aren’t Brandon Marshall’s girlfriend because they would have had a better chance to win while he was hitting her repeatedly in the face.

  51. mortalkondek says: Nov 12, 2013 8:40 AM

How do those grapes taste, B? A little sour?

  52. @Cereal_22 says: Nov 12, 2013 8:42 AM

I could see that, the little brother that is more talented & beats his older brother. The older brother then tries to use mind games & psychological tactics in a feeble attempt to gain the upper hand. Yeah this is all textbook stuff.

  53. big64d says: Nov 12, 2013 8:43 AM

Brandon Marshall is against locker room bullying but apparently he is for punching women in the face. Stay classy, big brother!

  54. JBLionsFan says: Nov 12, 2013 8:45 AM

Another idiot WR with a big mouth.

Calvin Johnson > Dez Bryant + Brandon Marshall

  55. lks311 says: Nov 12, 2013 8:46 AM

I’m sure B Marsh would consider it “disgusting” if people took shots at his prior off the field issues — so, he might want to keep his focus between the lines. Bottom line: Season Sweep.

  56. nwfisch says: Nov 12, 2013 8:46 AM

Cripes Brandon, the Bears lost, get over it. Let’s move the focus forward onto a tough Baltimore team.

The Bears have 7 games left to play, hopefully they can win 6 and take a wildcard spot.

  57. blackhawks2010 says: Nov 12, 2013 8:47 AM

The little brother swept us this year, not good Marshall. Is Detroit a lousy team? Yes, what does that make the Bears…..

  58. unkleruckus says: Nov 12, 2013 8:48 AM

Ummm….the cities financial problems have what to do with the Lions? Ford owns the Lions, he’s filthy rich, they sell out every game , and they’re currently leading the division. Lets not throw stones Brandon, and leave it to football talk, because lord knows you’re not the one to start bringing up personal problems.

  59. eagleswin says: Nov 12, 2013 8:50 AM

Not sure what the Bears and Marshall have done on the field that gives him room to talk.

  60. rondayne33 says: Nov 12, 2013 8:54 AM

It sucks when little brother grows up to be bigger & stronger than big brother eh Brandon?

  61. bringbackwayne says: Nov 12, 2013 8:55 AM

Very good receiver, but a big mouth. Brandon…..it’s football. He’s complaining about the mean Lions pushing? Strange things come out of his mouth.

  62. unkleruckus says: Nov 12, 2013 8:58 AM

And by the way, how’s that “Brandon is just as good as CJ” argument working out for you Bears fans!?

  63. alwaters9 says: Nov 12, 2013 8:58 AM

Marshall should look at the film again to see how badly the Bears defense treated Stafford…. Oh, thats right, they never laid a hand on him. No sacks, no knockdowns.

    What a whiner.

  64. gooolions says: Nov 12, 2013 8:59 AM

It’s just sour grapes no big deal. Maybe one day if Marshall ever gets to the playoffs he can get a bit part in a Calvin/Puff Daddy commercial.

  65. filthymcnasty1 says: Nov 12, 2013 9:00 AM

Maybe Brandon, but that makes the Bears like the Packers little sister.

  66. donniefootball says: Nov 12, 2013 9:00 AM

    Phil Jackson he is not.

What’s Marshall’s deal trying to influence officiating through the media? Sour grapes. Also, someone needs to Jim Mora on his ass and remind him that the Bears are far from a lock to make the post-season.

  67. 26predator says: Nov 12, 2013 9:01 AM

Wow, ‘Da Bears have officially jumped the shark.

  68. getatmeplease says: Nov 12, 2013 9:02 AM

And for all the dirty talk on the Lions, can anyone name me a player they have injured with their “borderline” hits? Also, “borderline” hits are routinely flagged and even legal hits are flagged nowadays so I’m not sure what the hell he’s talking about.

They had a couple roughing penalties yesterday but are league average in terms of roughing the QB penalties.

  69. wayne1693 says: Nov 12, 2013 9:03 AM

    Brandon Marshall is ‘borderline’ crazy!

  70. wehavebush says: Nov 12, 2013 9:04 AM

  71. fooleusa says: Nov 12, 2013 9:06 AM

Brandon Marshall is like one of those kids who is a sore loser and who can’t accept the fact that he got beat twice by a team his team used to push around. So, he makes excuses and is always looking to the “next game” or “next year”. Brandon should man up and own the losses. Oh, and he should probably shut up as well since he really has nothing to say.

  72. sws222 says: Nov 12, 2013 9:06 AM

I really believe all of this stuff from the haters is because they don’t have the same old sorry Lions to kick around anymore. It’s like when the small kid finally stands up to the bully. Get used to it!

  73. maddbearfan says: Nov 12, 2013 9:07 AM

Brandon..first of all ..Love ya man..love your efforts and your enthusiasm. But our head coach and starting quarterback gambled Sunday, and it didn’t work. They made dicisions that did not give our team the best chance to win.
Oh and as far as the playoffs are concerned….what say we wait till we get there to do the trash talking….

  79. lionsftw says: Nov 12, 2013 9:13 AM

If you don’t want your crybaby QB being touched, have your Oline stop someone. And Brandon Marshall is smart enough to know that the Lions don’t run the city finances right? Maybe not… P.S. Brandon no team you have played on has ever been to the postseason, so don’t act like you get there every year. I will end with this question: How can Detroit be bankrupt when it owns Chicago this year?

  80. trumb1mj says: Nov 12, 2013 9:14 AM

Sounds to me like we’ve got a case of jealousy and the inability to accept reality. Sorry Brandon, but your ‘little brother’ doesn’t want to play with you any longer, because he handed you your ass twice this season. He’s outgrown you, and beat you up. You won’t have to worry about a third meeting this season, because the ‘big brother’ won’t be making any trip to the playoffs this season. Now go take your meds, you head case.

  90. jeffchadwick says: Nov 12, 2013 9:33 AM

Brandon Marshall always does his best work in the playoffs. Oh wait…

  91. jglion says: Nov 12, 2013 9:33 AM

What a loser. If you’re going to pull out the “little brother” card, you’d better be damn sure that you’re the better team, and clearly the Bears are not. And BTW, Brandon, there’s not going to be any playoff game for you. Your team is toast.

  92. attyman says: Nov 12, 2013 9:34 AM

I love when athletes try to make sense. It creates comedy for the rest of us. As the author points out “borderline illegal” simply means legal.

First off Brandon the defensive plan of every team should be to knock the QB down. If that’s not your team’s game plan then it probably ranks up there with stupid moves like failing to change your defensive signals during the first match-up. Further, we will never know how many dirty hits your defense would have put on Stafford because they never hit Stafford…not once. And leave the officiating to the officials, if you think they called a bad game, then good, I’m glad we can agree to this because what’s disgusting is the constant holding that Long got away with in both our match-ups this year. And if you want to continue, your offensive line was well…offensive. They allowed pressure in your QB’s face all day and the Lions held Forte to 33 yds (even with all the holding).

The bottom line is “little brother” whooped your tail this year. Your team has done nothing but made excuses for both losses (Idonije “stole” your defensive signals in the first and “borderline illegal” calls in the second.). You’ll see us in the playoffs…we will be the team on the field and you will be the team cleaning out your lockers until next year. Stay crazy.

  93. abninf says: Nov 12, 2013 9:37 AM

“No, you can’t go, Detroit Lions. Sit back. Sit in your little city. Fix your financial problems and all of that, you know.

  96. f0rem4n says: Nov 12, 2013 9:39 AM

Nick Fairley confirmed getting to and knocking down Cutler was game-planned. It’s not the Lions fault that Chicago started a QB with limited mobility who holds the ball until the absolute last second.

*If* the Bears could have actually gotten to Stafford, they would have done the same. Unfortunately their pass rush got stood up ALL day.

  97. 63deuceman says: Nov 12, 2013 9:41 AM

Brandon Marshall has made great strides in turning his perception around. He’s earned more goodwill in CHI than his previous two stops in DEN and MIA combined.

And then he does this radio spot.

I’m sure this won’t necessarily change his perception for Bears fans, but it does for THIS fan. That’s not just an insult to the Lions, but rather an entire region in SE Michigan.

Usually you call someone “little brother” after you win. Brandon, you lost, twice.

And I don’t think the people in Michigan will mind you calling them “little brother.” Looking at their college teams. Mike Hart called Michigan State “little brother” several years ago and I think Michigan has only won once since then.

So Brandon be careful of what you say.

  99. timmmah10 says: Nov 12, 2013 9:43 AM

Don’t worry, the city of Detroit doesn’t take the comments of some jackass with mental problems seriously. (See what I did there? Low blows are fun, aren’t they Brandon?)

Marshall hasn’t been around long enough to call anyone in the NFC North his “little brother”. Wake up call Chicago, let’s keep the focus on football: Your QB is out indefinitely. You’re missing the majority of your defensive front. Peanut (the only reason Calvin was “contained”, if 2 TDs is contained…) is on IR. You’re right, Brandon, (if you are making a pretty bold assumption that the Bears will make the playoffs) the next time you meet the Lions it won’t “go down like that” because your team won’t be in the game.

Here’s a question: Why would Brandon Marshall wear different color shoes for mental health awareness and pay a fine to the NFL instead of just donating that fine money to a charity that works for mental health. (maybe because it was more about him sticking out of the crowd and less about his message?)

But hey, Detroit is bankrupt, so let’s talk about that instead of football. That subject doesn’t remind Marshall that he is on the outside of the playoffs looking in with the other “little brothers”.

  100. lilpuppy says: Nov 12, 2013 9:44 AM

  101. dcapettini says: Nov 12, 2013 9:44 AM

As a fan of neither, I think it would be good in this era of parity, for the Detroit Lions to rise from depths which they have inhabited for most of my life (I’m 67). It surprises me that despite all the playing field leveling that the league has done that certain franchises still cannot transcend mediocrity, much less scale the heights of triumph. With the exception of Barry Sanders and now Megatron, Detroit has given us very little to cheer. That said…

    GO LIONS

  102. medtxpack says: Nov 12, 2013 9:45 AM

  103. hurricanes88 says: Nov 12, 2013 9:46 AM

Lions fan for 39 years here.

I have thoroughly enjoyed watching the Lions beat the Bears twice this season. Hard fought games, very entertaining. They were either team’s game until the end. Kudos to both teams. While I am not necessarily jumping on a “we are going to the Big Dance” bandwagon, I am happy to see my Lions winning games.

That being said, I listened to the Brandon Marshall interview yesterday afternoon. He was taking Jay Cutler’s place on afternoon ESPN Radio AM 1000. I came away with a firm conviction that Brandon Marshall is a truly classy guy. Great sense of humor, and a friendly delivery. I do not agree that the Lions defense is borderline illegal – if they were, they would have been flagged a lot more. I do think that the D line (especially Suh) is under more scrutiny than most, based on their reputation. I thought the comment about “go fix your financial problems” was somewhat of a cheap shot, but *in the context of the verbal interview* I could absolutely tell that Brandon was being funny and teasing, not malicious and mean. That does not come out at all in this article. I still feel that Brandon Marshall is one of the real class acts in the NFL. And he plays some dang good football, too.

No worries, Brandon, this Detroit guy took your comments in the good humor that they were intended.

  104. laurencejn says: Nov 12, 2013 9:47 AM

Keep staying classy in defeat of Brandon!
I’m sure your wife took the brunt of your anger over losing to the Lions when you got home Sunday!

  109. lionhunter909 says: Nov 12, 2013 10:03 AM

After Marshall made his (good) comments about Titus Young last week, now he turns around and spews out this crap. Sounds like a sore loser to me. Football is a physical game and the Bears got manhandled most of the day. No sympathy here for Jay Cutler either, he clearly wasn’t ready to play and it wasn’t hard to figure the Lions would try to rough him up. McCown would have given the Bears a better chance to win. Poor decision by Trestman to start Jay.

  110. duce000 says: Nov 12, 2013 10:10 AM

I don’t agree with his comments about the city but don’t think he meant it in a evil way. Think it just came out that way talkin about the lions. But wateva y’all debate that

  112. jglion says: Nov 12, 2013 10:14 AM

What a loser. If you’re going to play the “little brother” card, you’d better at least be sure that you’re the better team. And clearly the Bears are not. BTY, Brandon, there’s not going to be any play off for you. Your team is toast.

  113. sosuhme says: Nov 12, 2013 10:15 AM

All WRs, indeed all NFL players, would be very well served to always ask themselves WWCD (“What Would Calvin Do?”). Can you imagine Calvin trying to make himself feel better after a bitter loss by belittling the opponent’s city? And that’s all Marshall is doing – trying to make himself feel better about losing to the Lions (2x) by belittling an entire city. Totally classless.

  114. dino2997 says: Nov 12, 2013 10:18 AM

Whose your daddy for the next 5 years, Brandon?

    (Hint: Lions)

  116. stancat says: Nov 12, 2013 10:36 AM

If you listen to the tape, Marshall’s little brother remarks are nowhere near as mean spirited as the commenters assume here. Marshall’s main point was since he got to Chicago, he has learned what a big deal the Packers rivalry is for the Bears. The Lions rivalry is less important. Lions fans have to admit that is pretty reasonable given the history. The radio announcer led Marshall into the little brother theme and he ran with it. But would you rather listen to one more bland jocktalk interview that strings cliches together without saying anything?

Marshall’s feigned disgust at the Lions’ “borderline” fouls is a whole other kettle of fish. If he wants to be the voice of the Bears then he should man up and answer for Tillman’s two personal fouls against Detroit’s two best offensive players. Those were not borderline, they were well over the line.

What is the rule on ejection for two personal fouls in one game? Will Tillman get fined by the NFL this week?

  117. easyeddie says: Nov 12, 2013 10:36 AM

  119. dtownsportslions says: Nov 12, 2013 10:46 AM

Brandon Marshall has never been to the playoffs, while little brother is on their way to going 2 of the last 3 years.

  120. metrocritical says: Nov 12, 2013 10:54 AM

Almost everything Brandon had to say was either exaggerated or whiny hogwash. If he sees the Lions in the playoffs this year it will probably be in HD, on the flat screen, in his man cave.

  121. spacincasen says: Nov 12, 2013 10:59 AM

Lions still haven’t won a playoff game since 1991, forgive me if I’m still hesitant to take this franchise seriously.

They beat Chicago by 2 points with the Bears missing their starting OLB, MLB, DT, CB, DE, and a QB playing on one foot. I’m sure Lions fans are happy to be taking that division this year, but do you really think they would be in this situation if Green Bay and Chicago didn’t get decimated by injuries? They didn’t look like a playoff caliber team at all to me on Sunday.

  122. jmblosser82 says: Nov 12, 2013 11:01 AM

  123. 1rockyracoon says: Nov 12, 2013 11:03 AM

He’s making fun of Detroit for being bankrupt, but does he forget where he plays? Chicago is second to none in violence. 500+ murders in one year. Better to be bankrupt then dead. Better to be in first ace than second place.

  124. larryboodry says: Nov 12, 2013 11:04 AM

With seven games left in the season, there’s no guarantee either team makes the playoffs, but to count either one out is premature.

And I will admit that I felt Marshall’s slam on the city of Detroit was uncalled for.

As for you Lions fans crowing about how you suddenly own us, the fact is that Trestman’s dumb gamble, on 4th. down when he chose not to let Robbie Gould do his thing, cost the Bears 3 points in a game your team only won by 2.

  125. bhuggins9 says: Nov 12, 2013 11:06 AM

I wonder why no one takes Lions fans or the team seriously?

If one more Lions fan points out that they have made the playoffs 2 out of the last three years I will scream. First off its only ONE time, the season is barely half over. Second of all BOTH times, if they make it this year, it took decimating injuries to division rivals to get in. In even competition the bears and the packers run away with the division.

Gloating comes after you have done something.

  130. mylionsroaring says: Nov 12, 2013 11:42 AM

    First very classless

Second it was a sweep, not like they got lucky in one game or something

third didn’t you cry the first loss that the Lions cheated somehow?

Sometimes the best thing to do is just read James chapter three. It talks about taming your tongue, something you and your whole team needs to learn after a loss. If anyone should be talking smack right now it should be the team who just won for the second time in a row. Just saying!!!

  134. damian56x says: Nov 12, 2013 1:02 PM

Although the Lions NFL franchise has had a long record of futility during the Superbowl era, the city of Chicago’s TWO MLB teams have a combined record of only 1 World Series championship in almost 200 years, with the Cubs last being 105 years ago. The Bears, despiteb fielding contending teams much more often than the Lions, still have managhed only ONE Superbowl wion out of oly two appearances. The Lions could tie their success with only one SB appearance and win during the next several years.

And hitting a Bears player 10 feet out-of-bounds is not ‘legal play’ just ’cause the refs ignored it.

So yeah, bring it on in the playoffs

Thought that only rival sportsFANS were stooping to using the economic woes of the city of Detroit as ammo to bash and flame Detroit sportsfans, but now I see that a professional football player has decided to do so as well. That is very “unsportmanlike”, to say the least.

Nevermind that the vast majority of Detrit’s pro-sports fans do not live within the city limits, instead residing mainly in its suburbs/exurbs, and the fact remains that the teams that each club fields have players who come from and reside worldwide, few if any actually being native Detroiters, who grew up in the city like I did. I wouldn’t trade even a week of my childhood in the 60s-70s while living in the NE corner of Detroit, for an entire year of any of its sterile and boring cookie-cutter suburbs.

Since Mr; Marshall brought the subject up, maybe he should crack open a US history book and perhaps read and learn some things.

In addition to putting the US on wheels, from its innovative automotive assembly-line factories beginning in the 30s, metro-Detroit was also considered to be the “Arsenal of Democracy” during WWII and played a LARGE part in the the US and its allies’ victories over Italy, Japan. and Germany. Most “Americans” living today owe a huge debt of gratitude for the freedoms and lifestyles that they still enjoy, including hurling insults and turning up their collective snotty noses at its remaining denizens.

It is really too bad and sad that the US goverments permitting an uneven “playing field “through so-called “free-trade” that foreign automakers, who had much lower overhead and legacy costs and who enjoyed manufacturing protections in the form of tariffs/taxes in thir homelands, were able to very successfully gain a foothold and eventually take over the “lions” share of the US automotive market, which inevitably led to Detroit’s economic demise.

Just as Cutler, begrudgingly, gains my respect and I am sure the Lions as well, every time he would get up after being hit. He absolutely was hit a ton…. Will any Bears fan or B Marshall acknowledge the multiple times he was helped to his feet by a Lion’s defender? again – respect is earned and Cutler is a tough SOB. What would you have done Brandon? It is a violent sport where any perceived or exposed weaknesses is taken advantage of whenever possible. That isnt dirty. It isnt nice either, but it was effective. When it crossed the line, it was called. No one likes seeing their QB get hammered play after play – block better…. pull him…. screen us to death…. anything…. but dont whine! and certainly no need to insult a city that certainly has it’s warts. We know about them all too well here. Go Lions! And, I do hope the Bears make the playoffs, that you are all healthy(us too)….
