The Falcons welcomed back one injured player on Tuesday while they were saying goodbye to another.
The team announced that linebacker Sean Weatherspoon has been activated from injured reserve. He was placed on the list with the designation to return in September because of a foot injury. This week’s game against the Buccaneers is the first that Weatherspoon, who returned to practice last week, is eligible to play. Weatherspoon’s injury was one of many that helped sink the Falcons before the end of the first half.
Left tackle Sam Baker won’t have the chance to return from his trip to the injured reserve. Baker landed there on Tuesday as a result of a knee injury and coach Mike Smith said he’ll have a procedure on the knee this week. Lamar Holmes will likely be the starting left tackle the rest of the way for Atlanta.
The team released veteran linebacker Thomas Howard, who played two games with them after signing as a free agent last month. The Falcons have one more roster spot open after Tuesday’s moves.
