Michael Vick: The last thing I want to be is a distraction

Eagles coach Chip Kelly has thus far resisted calls for him to name a starting quarterback by saying that Michael Vick isn’t healthy and that means there’s no reason to label him or Nick Foles as the team’s starter.

Vick said Tuesday that there’s been no internal discussion about what the team would do once he’s recovered from his hamstring injury either, but the veteran seems to be reading the same tea leaves that most of us are reading when it comes to the starting job. He said things like “just in case I’m ever needed again” and that he’d “understand” any call that Kelly made because “this is not my football team.”

“I don’t know. That’s not something that I’m thinking about at this point,” Vick said, via Jeff McLane of the Philadelphia Inquirer. “The last thing I want to be is a distraction to this team. I’m just working hard to get myself healthy.”

Vick didn’t rule himself out of Week 11, but he was adamant about not risking further injury by returning too soon. Whenever he is healthy enough to play, Vick’s probably going to run out his days with the Eagles as a backup unless Foles replaces him on the injury report.

Grown-up Mike Vick. Smart move if he wants a new team.

You’re not a distraction, you are a missed opportunity. Now you are depth. Just hang on to that clipboard and see if they need you from here, but right now Nick’s on the job.

Nickynick04–what big players on defense were the Pack missing on Sunday?? They had their starting lineup in there. What 9 players that were starters missed the game?? Rogers, Cobb, Finley–that was it. I saw so many stories that Eddie Lacy and James Starks were going to abuse them and the Eagles stuffed the run. Lets not forget the Eagles were missing their STARTING QB and they had 3 significant injuries during the game that tested their depth. No one in the NFL feels sorry when you have injuries’-its the next man up.

Career backup WR Riley Cooper burned your secondary for 102 yards and 2 TDs … from backup QB Nick Foles, who has made less career starts than Seneca Wallace … who was playing on a line that didn’t include former All Pro Jason Peters … and scored enough points to make the losses of multiple starting defensive players (Kendricks, Fletcher, Wolff) inconsequential.

All teams have injuries. Quit whining.

Classy response Vick. He knows he is replaced. And also seems to know he is a head pop or low blow to Foles away from being back out there, and wants to be ready to go when and if. Correct call, Mike.

The last thing the Eagles want you to be is the starting QB.

Vick will do himself the biggest favor by quietly fading into the background. He could still find himself another home, but not as a starter. But, good backups still make decent money and there are plenty of teams (including the Eagles) who will have rookies and two-year guys that could benefit from his mentoring. Plus, as he gets older he surely doesn’t want to take the chance of a major injury to carry him into retirement.

The last thing I’d want to be around Michael Vick is a pitbull.

All that Vick should be focused on is rehabbing his hammy. If Foles goes down, I would feel much better with Vick in there over Barkley.

    @nickynick04

didn’t the Giants only beat the Oakland Raiders by 4? Nick Foles threw 3 more Touchdowns than the point margin you won by. That is all I have to say.

Eagles were missing Michael Vick, Jeremy Maclin, Bradley Fletcher, Jason Peters, Mychal Kendricks, and Earl Wolfe. All of which are starters. So dont cry to me about injuries.

“I don’t know. That’s not something that I’m thinking about at this point,” Vick said

What a pile of crap, that’s ALL this psychopath is thinking about, himself.

  17. icdogg says: Nov 13, 2013 5:20 AM

I can’t possibly know what’s in the man’s heart, but Vick has been pretty much a model citizen lately. He seems to be very much a changed man from what he once was.

Uh take your time with that hamstring Vick, Foles is Chip’s QB now.
