Dan Connor returns to Carolina

The Panthers have a nasty defense this year.  And they’ll bolster it on Wednesday by bringing back one of their own.

Per a league source, linebacker Dan Connor will sign with Carolina.

Connor, a third-round pick in 2008, spent for years with the Panthers.  In 2012, he signed with the Cowboys.  Earlier this year, he joined the Giants.

A neck injury landed Connor on injured reserve in September.  Recently released from IR, Connor has chosen to continue his career where it began.

Blackburn hurt (with Klein subbing in and doing a decent job).

Looks like they’re either planning to see if Connor can man the Mike, move Keuchly back outside to play with Davis – or at least looking for LB depth considering Beason is up in New York

For years in Carolina? Seems like longer.

If I recall correctly, he left us because he wanted to start and he couldn’t get ahead of Jon Beason. Of course he has no chance of starting ahead of Luke Kuechly, but if he comes back from the injury and can contribute, the best LB corps in the league gets even better.

WHAT??!!!!! I mean that in a good way of course. Keuchly, Davis, and Dan Connor as our linebackers corp? There’s not another team in the NFL that comes close to that. I hated it when we lost Connor and couldn’t figure out why they let him go. He was an awesome LB for us and in on a lot of plays.

The word is already out on the Panthers D. Throw in Connor (if he can stay healthy after coming off his injury) and teams can forget altogether running the ball. We’ve already been able to put a lot of pressure on QB’s. Throw in one more threat like Connor and we could also see a slight uptick in INT’s.

So happy to hear this news!
