Former Packers tight end Mark Chmura was right. But he also wasn’t.

Yes, current (for now) Packers tight end Jermichael Finley will have surgery. But Finley’s career isn’t over.

According to agent Blake Baratz, the decision to have spinal fusion surgery was made to correct the situation, primarily to give Finley the ability to return to football.

Finley suffered the injury last month during a game against the Browns, resulting in temporary paralysis and hospitalization. Since then, many different opinions have been harvested regarding whether Finley will need surgery.

The conclusion has been made that, it he wants to play football again (and to be cleared to play football again), he’ll need surgery.

The surgery will be conducted by Dr. Joseph Maroon, the Steelers’ team neurosurgeon.
