Kaepernick returns to Twitter for motivation

Kaepernick Getty Images

After the 49ers lost to the Colts, quarterback Colin Kaepernick resorted to Twitter for a kick in the ass.  Specifically, Kaepernick admitted that he “favorited” certain abusive messages as motivation.

“It’s something I do for me,” Kaepernick said in the days after the 27-7 embarrassment.  “It helps me.”

Now that the 49ers have lost for the first time since September 22, Kaepernick has returned to Twitter for a boost to his game.  Kaepernick “favorites” page shows that he flagged four messages after Sunday’s loss to the Panthers.

“TOO MUCH HYPE,” one Twitter user said.

“I saw Kap becoming this from his Super Bowl performance …. he couldn’t handle that pressure either,” another said.

“Bro, you suck. Shoulda kept Alex smith,” said yet another.

“You are an overrated clown, keep killing your team’s chances dumb ass lol,” said the fourth.

Kaepernick needs any motivation he can get.  He’s returning to the place where he beat the Saints last year but later lost the Super Bowl.  And the Saints are a lot better than they were last year.

Given that his last effort to harvest negative tweets sparked a five-game winning streak, 49ers fans everywhere should start sending fireballs to @Kaepernick7.

On the bright-side, Kaepernick doesn’t take illegal substances before every game like the Seattle PEDhawks

Yeah Seattle, he doesn’t cheat to win

Here’s an idea, how about getting off twitter and get into the film room?

  3. seahawksteven777 says: Nov 13, 2013 11:10 AM

Apparently losing the game isn’t enough motivation on its own.

  4. assuredmutualdestruction says: Nov 13, 2013 11:11 AM

I see it the other way around. Kaep is obsessed with his self image and this is just another example of it and not a real solution to getting better on the football field.

  5. 2dimesandanickelback says: Nov 13, 2013 11:12 AM

What Kaepernick needs is to be a better quarterback. Too good of a team around him to only be putting up 9 points in a game.

  6. scrp2 says: Nov 13, 2013 11:14 AM

Noone should be complaining about Kaep’s performance. He’s only making $400K a year after taxes. Give him some Matt Flynn money!

Despite evidence to the contrary, fans and media alike don’t seem to recognize that second-year players often struggle.

This is for a number of reasons.

Opposing coaches and players have the previous year’s tape to game plan around. Players start believing their own hype and struggle to handle their first experiences with adversity. Second-year players fall into bad habits and their professional growth regresses, much like a golfer develops bad habits but can play well after taking some time off.

Some second-year players struggle more than others.

Cam Newton seems to have worked through it. RGIII seems to be working through it. Some, like Vince Young, never recover.

Remember this when someone like Johnny Manziel breaks onto the scene and runs all over the place for a year. Despite what your eyes and heart want to believe, listen to your brain. Statistically, a major regression is likely when a rookie starts his career hot.

A yes, I know Kaepernick wasn’t technically a rookie when he took over last year, but may as well have been.

He’ll probably bounce back next year.

  9. tongsareinyourseatback says: Nov 13, 2013 11:28 AM

Kaepernick is like Obamacare… so many promises of great things but complete crap when actually implemented.

  10. raiderlyfe510 says: Nov 13, 2013 11:28 AM

I’m pretty sure if Kaepenick was still seeing Alex Smith there waiting to reclaim his spo when he looks over to his sidelines…he would be balling outta control.

You’d think after essentially half a year of starting in the NFL, people would expect you to have a bad game or two. But obviously Kaepernick is never supposed to go through growing pains, because young QB’s NEVER do that

  13. hooterdawg says: Nov 13, 2013 11:30 AM

It does not appear that Kaep is getting the proper coaching. Teams have adjusted to his playing style, but play calling has not adjusted to the defenses stacked against the 9ers this season.

  14. jayniner says: Nov 13, 2013 11:35 AM

Instead of getting your motivation from Twitter Kaepernick, how about getting motivation by watching film of great QB’s, and at the very least, QB’s that are better than you?

  18. thestrategyexpert says: Nov 13, 2013 11:58 AM

Look he didn’t get enough motivation off Twitter the last time apparently, and now he’s back for more. I said this before and I’ll say it again, but he’s never going to get what he needs from Twitter. It’s only going to make him worse and his HC and his QB Coach need to give him more constructive ways of how to get better than searching anywhere and everywhere for motivation he doesn’t even need.

That is if he can figure that out.

Motivation can only take you so far. Hard work will take you anywhere you want to go.

Hard work is not on Twitter.

  23. 7ftgriff says: Nov 13, 2013 12:06 PM

Greg Roman should take a lot of the blame for Kaep struggling. They quit running the pistol altogether, they quit running the ball and try to get cute against Good defense. Also, in every game that Kap has really struggled Vernon Davis hasn’t been there. Alex would be struggling just as bad in the current situation.

  24. detectivejimmymcnulty says: Nov 13, 2013 12:15 PM

The people who need to get off twitter are those who feel the need to tweet professional athletes things like “You are an overrated clown, keep killing your team’s chances dumb ass lol.”

Seriously, if you’re a professional athlete why would you have a twitter? If you do good things on it (and I don’t know if any do because I don’t have one) then no one cares because the only thing that gets attention are negative stories.

  27. beastmode5150 says: Nov 13, 2013 12:20 PM

Hey Joe, how often would you throw with the #2 rushing offense in the NFL?

  28. adderal says: Nov 13, 2013 12:20 PM

I could care less what he does on twitter, All of them in this age group are into it. Product of the times. All these get in the film room comments from the uniformed are hilarious. Are you guys professional football players? How do you know what he needs to do. By all accounts from people who are around the team he works he’s arse off.
Right now he is a one read qb but thats teachable. He scored high on that stupid wonder lick test which obviously is not the end all but it does tell you he is bright and can learn the the things that are flaws in his game right now. Lets see how it plays out. He’s a 2nd round pick making about 500k and its way to early to label him a bust.

  29. boisestatewhodat says: Nov 13, 2013 12:20 PM

Saints win by no less than 10. Remember, Payton hasn’t faced the niners since the heartbreaking loss in the playoffs a couple years ago. Speaking of motivation…expect him to have a ‘lil something extra’ for em this week. Saints 31, niners 20.

  30. ketch20too says: Nov 13, 2013 12:26 PM

As a Hawk fan, it is great to see the 9ers going through struggles…but…Kap has NO ONE to throw too once Boldin is eliminated from the equation. A fairer judgement can be made when his WRs return from injury. Too early to compare him to Rick Meirer who lit it up as a rookie and stunk it up forever after.

  32. @Cereal_22 says: Nov 13, 2013 12:36 PM

It seems to me that Kaepernick takes losing too seriously, he’s got to learn to go with the flow some (like his coach) or he could implode & burn out early.

  33. 49er33 says: Nov 13, 2013 12:41 PM

You know with his commercials and muscle kissing one would assume he has an ego, but media tells me otherwise must be true.

People want to blame the team?
-O-line is in its third year together and touted as the best in the NFL
-Kaep is in his third year in the system. Smith was bearly over a year last year with GRo.
-Want to blame receiver depth? Smith had practice squad receivers prior to last year and Crabtree was cured of his dropsies last year which many forget.
-The running game is better than ever with Gore having his best year with that horrendous pass blocking line apparently…
-Kaps game against the Packers? Snaps Smiths game against the Saints.
-Also media was calling out the D the first two losses but the D was holding off well before turnovers by Kap but that one can also be put on the coaching staff since they were pass happy. But his games this year havent been pretty.

  34. liddogg33 says: Nov 13, 2013 12:44 PM

Not ONE niner fan strapped to a lie detector test and asked if they would trade russell straight for kaep would either tell the obvious truth and say HELL YEA OR THEY WOULD FAIL!!!

    Go hawks!!!

  35. davemishsr says: Nov 13, 2013 12:47 PM

You had to see this coming. The NFL is simply too competitive. Once opposing defensive coaching staffs get enough tape on any player they can break down strengths, weaknesses and tendencies in order to develop game plans to try and negate any players particular skill set. Even so the 49ers are still 7-2 so the kid is doing something right. Oh yeah, their two losses are to the Seahawks and Coltss (who handed the Seahawks their only loss). Nothing to be ashamed of there.

  36. osoviejo says: Nov 13, 2013 1:02 PM

Not sure I follow this. So, Kaepernick has trouble motivating himself?

And what exactly changes when he gets this external dose of motivation? Does he work harder? Think smarter? Make faster reads?

I don’t know what Kaepernick’s problem is, but I’m pretty sure this gimmick isn’t the answer.

  37. pacificnw7722 says: Nov 13, 2013 1:14 PM

Twitter for motivation after a loss? Kissing your biceps?

Saints at home will CRUSH the 49ers this Sunday…..mark it.

  38. citizenstrange says: Nov 13, 2013 2:17 PM

Have no fear. Jaws said that Kaepernick was the best quarterback in the history of the NFL. Seriously. Remember?

  39. seattlelibtard says: Nov 13, 2013 2:22 PM

Russel Wilson – Lowest paid starting QB in the league. 1st to arrive at practice, last one to leave. In off time, goes to Seattle Children’s Hospital and visits sick kids.

Kaepernick – sits in front of mirror, practicing kissing biceps with helmet on. hangs out on twitter to get motivation. in off time, visits tattoo parlors and skate shops.

    character matters.

  40. rodstud22 says: Nov 13, 2013 2:26 PM

Whatever it takes we want to win!!

Love it how Seattle fans come on here and bash Kap and the 49ers. Why so negative, keep those Seattle blues away from us. Oh and why in the hell would I want Wilson? Nothing stands out about Wilson, is he better than Kap?? Maybe but if I could pick a QB I can think if a few others I’d rather have Peyton or drew. You are 8-1 because ur defense not ur offense.

  43. stealthhawk says: Nov 13, 2013 2:47 PM

What is it about 49ers fans’ brains?

One poster in here said the Niners were 7-2 (they’re 6-3) and another said the Seahawks are 8-1 (they’re 9-1).

Pretending you guys didn’t lose and the Seahawks didn’t win last week doesn’t make it a reality gentlemen.

  44. djgordon2242 says: Nov 13, 2013 3:07 PM

I love how everyone on here thinks that professional athletes don’t have any free time away from football. He is on twitter favoriting tweets which takes what, five mins out of the day? Anyone who actually pays attention to the niners knows he has a tremendous work ethic and is always one of the first to get to the facility everyday. Work ethic is not the issue.

I seriously giggled at the first comment about taking PEDs before games. Niner fans will say anything to make themselves feel better. They’re totally popping adderall (which does nothing) and then magically passing the drug tests they take all the time. Just admit Seattle is a better team.

    #9-1 #hows2ndplace?

  48. swaggyy says: Nov 13, 2013 3:49 PM

    1. Vernon got hurt early.
    2. Williams has never lived to his potential (hence the rumors of him being on the chopping block)
    3. Mcdonald is a promising rookie but thus far has been plagued with drops. We all the beauty CK put in his lap the other day.
    4. Boldin gets doubled
    5. Mario just got back
    6. We still don’t have Crab.

So tell me again, why does Collin suck?
