Kyle Williams lands in Kansas City

Quarterback Alex Smith and wide receiver A.J. Jenkins aren’t the only former 49ers on the Chiefs offense anymore.

Wide receiver Kyle Williams is the latest to make the move from San Francisco to Kansas City. Williams was waived by the 49ers on Tuesday and claimed by the Chiefs on Wednesday. Williams broke the news himself via Twitter.

Williams got a lot of time on the 49ers offense this season, but didn’t do all that much with it. He had 12 catches for 113 yards and wasn’t doing much better as either a punt or kickoff returner.

It’s unclear what role the Chiefs would have in mind for Williams, but he could wind up taking the roster spot of lightly used wide receiver Chad Hall. Dexter McCluster is a good punt returner and Quintin Demps is averaging more than 29 yards per kickoff return, so there doesn’t seem to be a pressing need at either of those spots, although McCluster was limited by an ankle injury at Wednesday’s practice.

Good for Kyle. Liked his attitude in SF, but his continued issues with fumbles and lack of WR production sealed his fate.
Wishing him the very best in KC.

I did not stay at a Holiday Inn Express last night and I knew that was inevitable.

I hope Kyle Williams muffs a punt in the playoffs like he did for the 49ers

I hope he does well there. Though KC’s punt and kick returner are way better then he has shown to be.

The Chiefs’ transformation into the 2011 49ers continues…

Good luck Kyle. Just didn’t work out for you in SF. It isn’t like Baalke, etc. didn’t give you a ton of chances though…

Did he fumble the pen while signing the contract?

  10. jayniner says: Nov 13, 2013 5:36 PM

And how’s A.J. Jenkins working out for you in KC this season?

….yeah, 1 catch for 6 yards this season.

Scott McClaughlan had loaded the 49ers with the talent of two teams.. Then a year ago he became the President of the Seahawks. I’d say since then th 49ers have slipped and Seattle has Risen.

The real Kyle Williams plays in Buffalo

NOBODY in SF will miss this kid.

It was never Kyle Williams’ fault that he had an inept, one-read quarterback with highly suspect vision. At least he’ll win in KC… until they play someone who has record that is currently over .500.

Chiefs fans what do you think will be the outcome this sunday. As a Bronco fan I want to say 35-17 Denver, but knowing this rivalry I don’t doubt it will end up being 24-21 Denver.I do see a split in this series.Thoughts……

Chiefs win 23 – 21. Manning watches the 2nd half from the locker room.

  20. lks311 says: Nov 13, 2013 7:20 PM

Umm, does that mean he was claimed by exactly ONE team?

  21. jrhizzle says: Nov 13, 2013 10:23 PM

Good luck to Kyle. I was praying he would turn into a devastating slot receiver, but no such luck. Some new scenery may be just what he needs.

Chiefs really need receivers…but it would also help if they could get free on their routes.

And how’s A.J. Jenkins working out for you in KC this season?

About the same as Baldwin trade is working out for you in SF.

….yeah, 3 catches for 28 yards this season is really burning it up!!
