Manning would rather be practicing than talking ankle

Even though it was against the kind of manic preparation he stands for, Peyton Manning took a day off Wednesday. But that doesn’t mean he liked it.

The Broncos quarterback took the day to rest his sore right ankle, but there was no concern that he’d miss Sunday night’s game with the Chiefs.

I always like to be out there, be out there with your teammates,” Manning said, via Jeff Legwold of ESPN.com. “You certainly want to be out there, in my opinion, to keep your timing with your receivers.”

That’s fine, but the early results indicate that the 37-year-old quarterback has developed a degree of rapport with his receivers, so the decision was made to let Brock Osweiler get some reps.

“We certainly talked about it Monday about what the plan was,” Manning said. “I don’t [know] if it’s an age bracket thing or what. I’ve made a lot of adjustments in these past two years, you know, at this point in time in my career and this is just another one of them. I think it makes [sense] and I’ll be better for it.”

While he might not like it, he’ll get more days off in the future, according to interim coach Jack Del Rio.
