Panthers add depth with Connor, Bond additions

The Panthers have won five in a row, in impressive fashion, but they’re still thin at a few spots.

They made moves to address two of them Wednesday.

In addition to the previously reported signing of linebacker Dan Connor, the Panthers also claimed offensive lineman Travis Bond off the Vikings practice squad. Bond was a seventh round pick out of North Carolina.

The Panthers have been decimated with injuries to their offensive line, with five blockers on injured reserve.

To make room for them on the roster, the Panthers placed cornerback James Dockery on injured reserve with a shoulder injury, and released defensive tackle Sione Fua, who was given a chance to play guard last week.

Connor began his career with the Panthers as a third-round pick. He’ll lend some depth and play special teams, and continues to linebacker shuttle between the Giants and the Panthers, after Chase Blackburn came south and Jon Beason was traded north already this year.
