Texans running back Arian Foster’s season came to an end because he needed back surgery and he had the operation in California on Thursday.

Coach Gary Kubiak made the announcement that Foster’s herniated disc was operated on and said that the running back came through the operation well.

“His surgery went well and that’s about all I know,” Kubiak said, via the team’s website. “I don’t normally have any more particulars on it, but I know he had it and he’s doing well, and [he’ll] start the recovery process.”

That recovery process will have plenty of time to unfold before Foster will have to get on a field for so much as an OTA, but there’s been no expectation that Foster wouldn’t be able to play next season. There’s no reason to think he won’t be back in Houston if he’s healthy, but one can never be absolutely certain what the future holds for teams that start seasons 2-7.

He’s a running back. These days they are a dime a dozen. And if you are lucky you can find 3 or 4 good ones in that dozen.

Wouldn’t be surprised if the Texans tried to trade him.

Soon people will stop calling players in the NFL “injury prone” and “fragile”. Lets see how many 30 mph (the equivalent) crashes any of us can sustain without being injured.

This is the first season Foster has missed significant time due to injury. He has played in every game except for 2011 where he missed a whopping 3 games.
