Texans running back Arian Foster’s season came to an end because he needed back surgery and he had the operation in California on Thursday.

Coach Gary Kubiak made the announcement that Foster’s herniated disc was operated on and said that the running back came through the operation well.

“His surgery went well and that’s about all I know,” Kubiak said, via the team’s website. “I don’t normally have any more particulars on it, but I know he had it and he’s doing well, and [he’ll] start the recovery process.”

That recovery process will have plenty of time to unfold before Foster will have to get on a field for so much as an OTA, but there’s been no expectation that Foster wouldn’t be able to play next season. There’s no reason to think he won’t be back in Houston if he’s healthy, but one can never be absolutely certain what the future holds for teams that start seasons 2-7.
