Calvin Johnson dealing with “maintenance issues,” plans to play Sunday

Lions wide receiver Calvin Johnson missed his second straight practice on Thursday, but there’s not much fear that he’s going to miss Sunday’s game against the Steelers.

Tim Twentyman of the team’s website reports that the man they call Megatron said on Thursday that he was dealing with some “maintenance issues” that kept him from practicing. While the nickname and the word maintenance conjure up images of flux capacitors in need of repair, we imagine that they actually involve the knee injury that kept him out of one game and limited him in another earlier this season.

Whether it Johnson does not think that the maintenance will require him to miss the matchup with Pittsburgh. Johnson has 29 catches for 567 yards and five touchdowns in the Lions’ last three games and the team’s not going to count on him any less in the future, so it is in the team’s best interest to do anything they can to make sure Johnson makes it to the field as close to 100 percent as possible.

For this week, it looks like that means a light practice schedule.

You mean he had to stay home to let the guy in to fix the furnace?

Right now his body is floating by on a conveyor belt at the Ford plant for upgrades, fresh oil, and a new warranty plan for the next 5 miles of yardage.

Maintenance issues, as in he’s been watching tape of Ike Taylor and trying to crack that cover code.

The Lions will jump out to a 20 point lead before Roethlisberger gets some garbage time yards and garbage time points to make the game seem a little closer than it really was.

The only interesting thing to watch for will be if Roethlisberger has a turnover on the Steelers first possession three games in a row. That’s got to be some kind of record right?

Not impressed with Calvin Johnson. I’ll take Pierre Garcon AND Santana Moss over him, as would any NFL GM. #HTTR #RedskinsWereRobbedInDetroit #GoodellHatesTheRedskins

It’s a little known fact that as part of his contract, Johnson is required to maintain the plumbing in the locker room and cafeteria.

    Trolls are out tonight!

Maybe Johnson got lazy and Calvin had to step in for P Diddy and do some interviews?

Why does anyone ever think he won’t play? He does this every year..”injuries” that keep him from practicing during the week and catch 8 passes for 130 yards and 2 td’s on Sunday..then not practice with an”injury”.. The guy is the best in the league and doesn’t want to ain’t hurtin’ him
