Owen Daniels still hopes to return in Week 14

Daniels

The worst losing streak in Texans history has included the loss of tight end Owen Daniels. On Wednesday, Daniels said he still intends to return to the field this year.

Placed on injured reserve with the one-per-team designation to return after fracturing a fibula in October, Daniels is eligible to play in Week 14 against the Jaguars. According to the Houston Chronicle, that’s the date he’s targeting.

On one hand, it makes no sense for Daniels to rush back to the field, given that the Texans are, for all intents and purposes, cooked as thoroughly as any cooked thing has ever been cooked.

On the other hand, Daniels’ career in Houston could be just as cooked, making it important that he generate film that shows he can still run and block and catch, in the likely event he’s involuntarily foisted onto the open market in 2014, when his salary moves to $4.5 million.
