Ray Rice insists his hip is fine, and the Ravens will be

No one doubts Ray Rice’s ability, but his inability to be productive this year has been a constant question.

But while his coach wondered if his hip injury is still bothering him, and conceded that they’d play the hot hand in the backfield, Rice insisted he was fine and things were about to turn.

Once I get a little space, you’ll see I’m clear off the injury,” Rice said, via Jeff Zrebiec of the Baltimore Sun. “It’s an ongoing battle that you just have to keep working through. This is something different for me, it’s something different for the offensive line, and it’s something different for all of us. It’s something we’re not used to.

“In the grand scheme of things, we did come out with a win last week. I don’t want to harp too much on it, but it’s something that needs to be corrected. We’ll work on it.”

While offensive line problems have also been a constant for the Ravens, neither Rice nor backup Bernard Pierce have been able to show much over the course of the year. They’re third from the bottom in rushing, and are tied with the Jaguars for a league-worst 2.8 yards per carry.

“I don’t need to prove I’m a Pro Bowler,” Rice said. “I’ve been there three times already and I’ve won a Super Bowl. Proving all that stuff all over again is not in my best interest. It’s trying to do whatever I can to make the Baltimore Ravens win football games. As long as I’m able to do that, I’m fine with that. If I’m lacking in one area, go look at how I’m doing in pass protection. Go look at how I’m working with my offensive line, helping those guys communicate with Joe [Flacco, the quarterback].

“They’re just statistics and numbers that a lot of the world gets caught up in. Right now, the only statistic or number that matters is a ‘W.'”

Of course, the Ravens only have four of those, a number that also comes up well short of expectations for the defending champions.

289 rushing yards on the season.

    36.1 yards per game.

    2.5 yards per carry.

    3 touchdowns and 2 fumbles.

    He’s washed up.

No one on the team can run. Its got to be a scheming issue and Ron Casilla is the guy I am pointing to.

I don’t think it’s his hip. I think it’s the ridiculously poor play of the O line. Pierce isn’t fairing much better so it points to a lack of holes. Lose the zone blocking and things will get better for both backs.

It’s not the O-line. The constant battery from LB’s blowing up the checkdown has finally taken it’s toll.
