Frazier: No worries about Peterson, quarterback decision coming Saturday

Leslie Frazier AP

Running back Adrian Peterson missed practice for the second straight day on Friday with a groin injury, but the Vikings aren’t planning to play without him on Sunday.

Peterson was listed as probable on the team’s final injury report and coach Leslie Frazier said that the running back will be fine to play on Sunday. Quarterback Christian Ponder was also listed as probable, but Frazier wasn’t willing to say that he’d be handing the ball off to Peterson against the Seahawks.

Frazier will make an announcement about the team’s starting quarterback on Saturday. It would be a big surprise if it was anyone other than Ponder based on the way the week has unfolded, but the Vikings are reserving the right to make that call over the weekend.

That’s the last big call for the Vikings to make before the trip to Seattle as Frazier also announced that wide receiver Jerome Simpson would travel and play a week after being arrested on a DWI charge. Frazier didn’t say whether or not Simpson would start after saying earlier this week that the team would like to see more of rookie Cordarrelle Patterson.

Over/under on posts from tokyomcfilthy has the line set at 7. Thumbs up for over and down for under

Frazier knows he can depend on peterson since he never sees his family or children.

  3. whatjusthapped says: Nov 15, 2013 3:10 PM

The way the season has been going for the Vikings, I wouldn’t let Jerome Simpson drive the team bus, they’ll never make it to the stadium.

What’s the over/under on Jennings catching more than 2 passes this week? He is beginning to make Jared Allen look like a good use of the salary cap. Minnesota is lucky to have Spielman for a GM, where would they be without him?

Vikes ship has sailed this season.

Adrian Peterson is a class act player

    Deal with it

He’s still hoping to bring someone in to start after 2 practices.

I would take the Vikings QB depth chart over the Packers any day of the week.

For the next three weeks only.

  8. dragonfly99 says: Nov 15, 2013 3:17 PM

Totally clueless. Why not wait until Sunday at noon to announce your starting quarterback.

  9. blowpackblow says: Nov 15, 2013 3:17 PM

At least this whipping will not be on prime time. America is sick of watching how horrible the Vikings are!

  10. snowlock2013 says: Nov 15, 2013 3:18 PM

I wish Les would just come out with it and tell us which QB is going to embarrass himself and us on Sunday in Seattle. The suspense is killing me!

  11. mclovin07 says: Nov 15, 2013 3:22 PM

I’m sure Seattle is shaking in their boots at the thought of Ponder, or Freeman….not.

Leslie needs to go the guys a joke…

  12. Carl Gerbschmidt says: Nov 15, 2013 3:24 PM

I hear Jennings has an “achilles” issue. Sounds like Vikes are starting to come down with the Frazier Flu or Spielman Syndrome. Ponder is the only one with any heart.

  13. purpleguy says: Nov 15, 2013 3:29 PM

The guy played with his stomach muscle hanging out of his body last year — he’ll play Sunday. Chris Cook (and I was going to say half the Packer’s roster, but wait, I just did) should watch and see what it’s like to actually effectively play a game while injured.

  14. countyk66ers says: Nov 15, 2013 3:30 PM

Vikings will win against the Seahawks.

  15. deltaoracle says: Nov 15, 2013 3:43 PM

America holds its breath, wondering whether Moe, Larry or Shemp will fall off the ladder. Maybe they should try Patterson at QB to add even more “quality depth.”

  16. purplengold says: Nov 15, 2013 3:56 PM

Save AP for next year, this season is done.

  17. cglacius says: Nov 15, 2013 3:58 PM

Vikes should save themselves the trouble and trade Peterson, Allen, Ponder, and Cassell while they all still have value. Cut Freeman and fire Frazier and his staff. Bring in Cowher and Bridewater!

  18. macneil4025 says: Nov 15, 2013 4:14 PM

Skol Vikes, at least were not starting Matt Flynn or Scott Tolzien this weekend, that really is the bottom of the barrel!

    A) In case you didn’t notice, the trade deadline has passed.

    B) Since when do Ponder and Cassell “still have value?”

Not like we were wondering which Viking QB to start on our Fantasy Team…….Peterson, now that we need to know.

Scott Tolzien threw for 288 yards in his first game as an NFL QB. Ponder hasn’t hit that mark in a game yet this season.

And yet the Vikings coaches think he’s greatest ever. And worse yet he’ll probably be back next year.

  24. conormacleod says: Nov 15, 2013 5:24 PM

First, all QBs not named Rodgers have zero wins for the Packers. Second, you guys have not been paying attention if you think the Vikings will NOT win 3 more meaningless games this year to hurt their draft pick. Count the number of great QBs that will be available in the draft, then add the number 1. That’s the Vikings draft number.

  25. filthymcnasty1 says: Nov 15, 2013 5:37 PM

    Holy crap.

Scott Tolzien threw for more yards after replacing Wallace last week than any Viking starter has in any game this season. And this practice squad call up hasn’t even started a game yet.

No wonder Viking fans are so ashamed of their front office.

Joe Webb needs to be back in qb mix. Lol.Frazier sent him in ill-prepared in the playoff start like he did with Freeman in his one start. I don’t understand his crush on Ponder. He’s horrible. Although he married well.

    ________

The Vikings haven’t scored fewer than 23 points in any game Ponder has played this season. What did Tolzien get you? 13? Stats are for losers.

  31. jollyjoker2 says: Nov 15, 2013 7:42 PM

maybe the vikes need to draft yet another QB that sits out all of the preseason games so they save him for the regular season and widen the mystery of the QB. Pathetic. Vikes qb haven’t done squat since Tommy Kramer and Fran Tarkington …And tommy was a drunk 30 years ago.

  32. vincelombardisghost says: Nov 15, 2013 7:50 PM

How’s that quest for 2,500 rushing going for AP this year? Hmmmm. Not so good. As for Jennings, can’t blame him for taking the money and running. Too bad he’s not running with a football in his hands with the Vikes QB’s chucking the ball at his feet.

  33. tokyosandblaster says: Nov 15, 2013 8:18 PM

At least we know what is wrong with the Packers. Their starting MVP QB is out.

    What’s wrong with the vikings?

Same team from last year, added a bunch of picks and free agents….

The Vikings are 5 or 6 years away from anything meaningful, and by that time, Peterson will be long since retired.

  34. 2ruefan says: Nov 15, 2013 9:10 PM

Yeah right Tokyo. 5 OR 6 YEARS. LOL. Teams turn around in a year in today’s NFL with free agency and player movement. That ststatement is pure ignorance. The Vikings went from a handful of wins to 10-6 and playoffs last year. And a few teams do similar things ever year. Your exuberance to put down an opposing team just to ne insulting just makes you say stupid things.

On average, the NFL has 6 new teams make the playoffs each year. The worst team in the NFL last year is currently 9-0. The NFL has a salary cap, and there really isn’t any such thing as a 5-6 year rebuild anymore.

Are you sure you even watch professional football? Your knowledge appears to be quite limited on every single post.

  37. conormacleod says: Nov 15, 2013 9:22 PM

Would now be a good time to point out that the Giants are favored by 4 against the Packers this weekend? I’d like to hear Packer fans talk about that. How’s your running game? How’s your defense? How’s your Tolzien?

This year isn’t an aberration. The Vikings have a losing record dating all the way back to the beginning of the millennium.

    They’re losers.

From 2 and 7 I cant talk any smack. Vikes are bad this year, sucks but its true. Pack is garbage without Rodgers, sucks but its true.

I am looking forward to the best kickoff return team in the NFL facing off against the best kickoff D in the NFL. Im also looking forward to seeing the best running back in football playing against the 2nd best running back in football. And finally, im excited to see Percy play again, even if I hope his team loses.

Looking forward to watching my team play football on Sunday. Not hoping for a loss so we get a good draft position. Not going to take orgasmic pleasure in a rival teams misfortune. Not going to root for a bunch of people to lose thier jobs because Im dissapointed in this years team.

    Crazy Right?

  41. tokyosandblaster says: Nov 16, 2013 8:00 PM

You guys keep bringing up the packers sucking without Rodgers. Yes. We know.

The broncos, Seahawks, niners, patriots, saints, panthers, bengals, colts, and chargers would all be absolutely terrible without their starting QB.

    The point is:

You guys are absolutely terrible WITH your starting QB.
