San Francisco’s Mike Iupati, one of the best guards in the NFL, was carted to the locker room after suffering a knee injury on Sunday in New Orleans.

The 49ers quickly announced that Iupati will not return. There’s no immediate word on the extent of the injury, but the fact that the team could rule him out for the rest of the game so quickly suggests that it doesn’t look good.

Iupati suffered the injury when 49ers running back Frank Gore got tackled and rolled up onto the back of Iupati’s leg. Iupati went down in pain immediately.

With Iupati out, Adam Snyder cam in as the 49ers’ left guard.
