Dolphins and Chargers tied at halftime

The Dolphins can’t say this often lately, but they caught a couple of breaks Sunday.

A roughing the passer penalty negated a Brian Hartline fumble at the goal line, and Daniel Thomas followed with a 1-yard touchdown run to give them a 10-7 lead in the second quarter.

Playing in front of what looks like a half-empty stadium, with weeks worth of scandal hanging over them, the Dolphins showed moments of competence.

They forced the Chargers to kick a field goal just before halftime which tied the game, after Philip Rivers threw a touchdown pass to Antonio Gates, but it was called back when Rivers was ruled over the line of scrimmage.

That’s kind of the way this game between 4-5 teams has gone, in fits and starts with no clear sense either of them wants to win. Both teams have turned it over, with Ryan Tannehill and Rivers each throwing interceptions.
