Jack Del Rio interviewed with Southern Cal

There was a longer hesitation than you’d have expected between the time Broncos coach John Fox fell ill and defensive coordinator Jack Del Rio was named interim head coach.

That was likely, in part, because Del Rio had just interviewed for a job the day before.

According to Jay Glazer of FOX Sports, Del Rio interviewed for the vacant head coaching job at his alma mater, Southern Cal. According to Glazer, Trojans athletic director Pat Haden asked for permission, it was granted, and he flew to Denver to talk to him Nov. 1.

That was during the Broncos’ bye week, and the day before Fox fell ill in North Carolina, where he was hospitalized for eventual heart surgery.

There was no word on the status of the job, but it certainly explains the delay in promoting Del Rio to a job most expected he’d fill while Fox was out.

    Don’t do it, SC!

    Seems like that Orgeron (sp? too lazy to look it up) is doing a pretty good job.

    Wasn’t one of the knock on Kiffen that his control-freakiness weren’t the right fit for USC?

    Isn’t Del Rio’s tree kind of from the same forest?

    Broncos = sinking ship

    Oergeron, IS NOT QUALIFIED for the SC job. That job REQUIRES one of the TOP 5 Coaches in the country. He’s NOT one of those. Del Rio is one of their OWN & will DEFINITELY be able to recruit well. Kevin Sumlin, Nick Saban, Les Miles etc… should be considered. But you could do ALOT WORSE than Del Rio. Those other coaches named haven’t recruited the Pac-12 before & the NEW COACH should have EXPERIENCE in that area. Hiring an SEC Coach wouldn’t be beneficial in that sense either. David Shaw should ALSO be considered but I actually see Del Rio or Sumlin getting that job

    There a 7,000,000 and 1 reasons that Jack should take that job. The first is $7,000,000.00 per year salary and the second is the same as the first

    SMH my Broncos can NEVER have dedicated assistants. Three years in a row. Can we get some loyal, dedicated co-ordinaters?

    After Enver gets exposed as the frauds they are tonight, Del Rio will jump ship before his value drops.

    Broncos 9-1 going on 10-1. You jealous haters are so funny. Jack is doing great and the Broncos are about to steam roll through the playoffs and on to win the big game.

    Why in the world would Nick Saban or Les Miles leave their schools for USC? That’s ridiculous. USC isn’t the elite job people in southern California think it is anymore.
