Jennings inactive, despite being listed as probable

Jennings

A day after we wondered aloud whether the Broncos would dare to not play Peyton Manning despite listing him as probable with an ankle injury, the Vikings have dared to deactivate receiver Greg Jennings despite listing him as probable with an Achilles injury.

Technically, the “probable” designation means that the player is a virtual certainty to be available for normal duty. Which means that Jennings should be playing at Seattle.

Several years ago, the NFL made it clear to teams that, if/when a player listed as probable doesn’t play, at a minimum an explanation must be provided.

In this case, it’s possible that the Vikings decided to give Cordarrelle Patterson the start over Jennings. Still, Jennings would be part of the rotation.

Either way, it’ll be interesting to know how Jennings went from virtual certainty to out.

UPDATE 3:43 p.m. ET: A Vikings spokesman tells PFT that the issue will be addressed by coach Leslie Frazier after the game.
