Hopkins benched by Texans on Sunday

Andre Johnson wasn’t the only Texans receiver who made news in Sunday’s game.

Rookie DeAndre Hopkins, a first-round pick regarded as Johnson’s heir apparent, ended up being benched during the team’s 28-23 loss to the Raiders.

“Bottom line, DeAndre made a lot of mistakes early in the game, so we gave another guy a chance to play,” coach Gary Kubiak said, via the Houston Chronicle.

As pointed out by John McClain of the Chronicle, Hopkins eventually returned.

Still, it was an unremarkable day for the rookie.  Hopkins had one catch for seven yards, a week after he had six for 69 against the Cardinals.

“It’s a long season, but we can endure it,” Hopkins said.

The benching came days after an obscene video ended up on Hopkins’ Instagram account, prompting Hopkins to join the annals of all-time great on-the-record quotes:  “It’s not my genitals.”
