Reid on Peyton: He’s pretty good, we needed better pressure

In the week leading up to Sunday night’s Chiefs-Broncos game, much was said about how the hobbling Peyton Manning would struggle against Kansas City’s ferocious pass rush. As it turned out, the Chiefs never sacked Manning and rarely got close on any of his 40 passes. Chiefs coach Andy Reid wasn’t happy about that.

“They did a good job getting the ball out fast,” Reid said, via the Kansas City Star. “They work the pocket pretty well. There were times we had pressure, but he would slide and throw opposite, which isn’t an easy thing to do. He’s a pretty good quarterback . . . he got away with a couple that most guys wouldn’t be able to get away with. But we need to do a better job of getting a little more pressure on him.”

Manning completed 24 of 40 passes for 323 yards, with one touchdown. Those are far from his best numbers of this great season he’s having, but with no interceptions and no sacks, playing against one of the best defenses in the NFL, that was a very good game for the Broncos’ offense.

Manning is pretty good. The Chiefs’ defense will need to be better when they face him next time if they want to win the AFC West.
