Titans sign John Skelton

The second visit was the charm for John Skelton in Tennessee.

Skelton visited with the Titans on Monday and has signed with the team according to both Chris Mortensen of ESPN and Jim Wyatt of the Tennessean. Skelton had previously visited with the team after Jake Locker’s hip injury, but they opted to stick with just Rusty Smith behind Ryan Fitzpatrick at that time.

Locker’s now out for the season with a foot injury and the Titans have decided to give themselves another option at quarterback over the final six weeks of the season. Skelton doesn’t hold much promise as a quarterback of the future, but neither do Fitzgerald or Smith so the Titans may think that they can do something better in the present.

Skelton spent time in Bengals camp over the summer and spent a week as the third quarterback in San Francisco earlier this season.

UPDATE 2:34 p.m. ET: The Titans have announced the move. Cornerback Tommie Campbell is headed to injured reserve.

  1. This move puts the Titans over the top, they now will be able to complete their dynasty winning multiple superbowls over the next few years, great free agency signing by a great GM, coach, players

    #FutureDynasty

  2. Ravenswhat says: “Vince Young got passed over for Skelton? Seriously, what did Vince do to get blackballed NFL wide?”

Um … have you been in a coma since 2008?

Titans: VY fractured the team and got his coach fired.
Eagles: Remained a back-up for one year and was cut.
Bills: Signed for several weeks and then cut.
Packers: Signed for a few weeks and then cut.

    Enough said.

  3. At least this shows the Titans are not so stubborn to ignore their current and pressing needs to defend why they past on Skelton the first time.

In the NFL, many success stories have been based on finding the right “fit” to play in and succeed as Joe Montana, Tom Brady, Namath, Peyton Manning, Drew Brees, Farve, Russel Wilson, and other QBs or even running backs (Thomas Jones, Sproules, etc) have proven.

Of course Skelton will probably not make any sort of impact on the Titans’ season, but you just never know.

  4. Yea! This will work. LOL. It’s a good thing the next three games are away games.

The Titans are STILL trying to get back to the pre-VY days when we had respect and a winning team. Most fans now realize that CJ is fools gold. But hey, we PAID him…how’d that work out? Both of which we can say “Thanks Bud.”

This organization does NOT know how to put together a winning team. We have become bottom feeders.

  5. It is getting to the point where it also needs to be reported how many teams these roving QBs have been signed to – like Skelton, Kolb, Henne, Quinn, Flyn, etc ’cause some of them get around like a Kardashian.

  6. Better signing than the pick-a-tron which I will never have any idea why we signed him. In my opinion, I though Skelton was a much better QB than Kolb was.

Who in the heck is Fitzgerald ???? !!! Anyone?

Maybe your story writing would be better if you had a better writer you would know what you are talking about…

    Go Titans Go!

And for now Go Fitzpatrick Go!
Until the 2014 NFL draft…when the Titans draft a QB in one of the first 3 rounds….

  8. LMAO! When did FITZGERALD start playing QB for us? Great opportunity to open up a discussion to whether he would do a better job than our current depth at that position.
