Charles Johnson week-to-week with sprained MCL

AP

The coach of the team the Panthers beat last night is notorious for monotonously calling his players “day-to-day.”  Panthers defensive end Charles Johnson is, a day after being leg whipped by Patriots tackle Marcus Cannon, week-to-week.

Per a league source, Johnson has a sprained MCL.

The term “week-to-week” implies he’ll miss at least one week, which would put him out of Sunday’s game at Miami.

The MCL is a rope-like ligament that can heal on its own if not fully torn.  But it takes time.  How much time for Johnson remains to be seen.

  1. Cannon should have to sit as long as Johnson does.

It’s ridiculous. He could have ended Johnson’s career. But he’ll get a little fine, and that’ll be that.

  2. Cannon and Talib both should have been ejected. Patriots played a dirty game last night, with Talib holding and twisting Smith’s ankle after a play was over and Cannon doing the leg whip.

How is throwing a punch worse than what those two dirt bags did?

  3. It was an accident, I believe he didn’t aim to injure him. He wasn’t even looking at Johnson.

Cannon over came cancer recently and was awarded the Ed Block award for being a role model. Talk about Karma? you haters that are condemning him as a “dirt bag” over your interpretation of his intentions, and on one second of his life, are bringing bad Karma on yourselves. Selfish little school girls.

  4. Someone else pays a heavy price for the Pats cheating, except Belichick and his players.

    Shocking.

Wonder if he apologized for cheating in the Panther’s only Super Bowl while he was in town?

It’s great that he has come back. Cancer is no joke and not the slightest bit funny. But there is a rule in the book prohibitig being on the ground and reaching up with your leg in an attempt to trip the opponent. He should have received a 15-yard penalty. All I want from Patriots fans is an acknowledgement of this while they are protesting the last play.

  6. Although I’m a fan of another team in this division yet to play the Panthers, I recognize what a terrific player Johnson is and I wish him a speedy and complete recovery.

  7. It was deliberate, they are coached to do this.

    Don’t believe me?

Then go watch the video of this play and ask yourself what the hey is Gronk is trying to do with his leg.

  8. It was an accident? REALLY?? So, he raised his leg and thrust it forward into Johnson’s leg because . . . of a muscle spasm?? Because he wanted to scratch between his legs?? Dude, take off those red, white and blue glasses and admit that your boy got busted leg whipping an opponent. He’s lucky it didn’t draw a flag, but he won’t be so lucky when the league office takes a look at it on video.

  9. they have as much class as their organization does. that leg whip was the worst thing that happened yesterday but lets keep crying cuz a call finally went against us.

Sure are a lot of anti-Patriot whiners on this page.
    **********

Sure are a lot of Patriot whiners on every page that references a bad call (when they should NEVER have a right to cry about bad calls again, AND it was the correct call).

    Whhhahhhhhahahahahahahah

How’s that? What did “he” do?

I only recollect some Panther players having some involvement with steroid misuse just prior to that game. You surely must remember the Panther patients of Dr. James Shortt.

  12. We will see what you people think of “karma” when you’re watching the Patriots in the playoffs, because your team has already cleaned out their lockers.

    Now that is karma lol!

Karma has been kicking your butts for so long you are bitter!

  13. Bill Belichek’s new name is President Belichek. Lies and cheats, gets caught then just continues to lying and cheating while he keeps his job. Only in America.

  14. For the Panthers who think the Patriots play dirty-please review the video highlights of Gronk#87 being hit with the crown of the helmet by 2 Panther defenders. First #56 AJ Klien hits Gronk with crown of helmet to Gronk’s helmet then #21 Mike Mitchell launches himself up with the crown of his helmet to the helmet of Gronk. Should have been 2 flags with the new safety rules but clearly this was a Panthers ref no call which even if you hate the Pats-if it was your player getting launched on and he was taken out with a concussion you would be pissed. The safety rules apply to everyone! PS-in case you forgot-Gronk scored even though 3 defenders were on him and 2 of them tried to take his head off! I guess if you can’t get Gronk legally you can always try a bear hug at the end since hits to the head don’t work.
