The Colts cut from perhaps their thinnest position to get more Irrelevant.

The team announced they waived wide receiver Griff Whalen, and promoted tight end Justice Cunningham from the practice squad.

Cunningham was the final pick in this year’s draft from South Carolina, and was released in final cuts.

Whalen played in six games this year, with nine catches. The Stanford product was trading on his familiarity with his old college coach and quarterback, Colts coordinator Pep Hamilton and Andrew Luck.

His release could lead to more of a role for rookie wideout Da’Rick Rogers, who was promoted from the practice squad last week. Rogers has plenty of physical talent, but the Colts indicated they were willing to give him a chance after a long line of off-field problems in college.
