Cottrell upholds Goldson suspension

Earlier this year, a one-game suspension imposed by the NFL on Bucs safety Dashon Goldson was overturned by hearing officer Matt Birk.

On Monday, the league took a second run at Goldson — and this time Ted Cottrell upheld the banishment.

Per a league source, Cottrell has heard the appeal and confirmed it.  As a result, Goldson will miss Sunday’s game at Detroit.  He’ll be eligible to rejoin the team on Monday, November 25.

Goldson has an extensive history, this year alone, of applying illegal hits on defenseless receivers.  When his prior suspension was overturned, a $100,000 fine was imposed instead.

With the suspension, Goldson will lose one game check in the amount of $264,705.88.

Also pending is the one-game suspension of Colts linebacker Erik Walden.  Walden was suspended after applying a head butt to Titans tight end Delanie Walker, who wasn’t wearing a helmet.

  1. Makes up for his lack of talent with questionable hits that usually tend to have a negative impact on the game. Bucs need to cut bait and find a guy with better cover skills. If you keep dropping Revis to compensate for the safeties, you’re wasting him.

And things get even easier for Calvin.

Yeah but let’s not forget that one guy named Revis.

He’s just playing “Buccaneer football” that Schiano wants.

Not from anything I’ve read about Schiano and that team. That’s not at all what they call “Buccaneer Football”.

  4. I like Goldson, and think he’s a heck of a player. But come on man. You are hurting your team, first with 15 yard penalties, now with not even being able to dress.

I don’t like the new rules that protect offensive player so much either, but at some point, you have to think about what is best for your team

  5. The reason he is suspended is due to the lions playing on thanksgiving , good ole goodell doesn’t want Calvin Johnson getting hurt for the big day of football,

    Are you fricking kidding me!!!!

He was suspended because he has continued to do the same thing over and over without making an effort to fix it. It has nothing to do with the Lions, it has to do with a Bucs player that refuses to follow the rules of this NEW NFL!!!! Do I like it?NO!!!

It has nothing to do with Calvin Johnson, I only hope Calvin plays lights out so I can come see you cry all over this board. For everyone else Good luck and I hope your team stays healthy
