Bengals sign Christo Bilukidi, again, after having prior contract voided

It took two weeks longer than anticipated but defensive tackle Christo Bilukidi is a member of the Cincinnati Bengals.

The Bengals attempted to sign Bilukidi on Nov. 4, but the contract was nullified by the league because Bilukidi, who is Canadian, didn’t have the proper work permit to be employed in the United States.

Cincinnati had to look elsewhere and signed Kheeston Randall to fill their open roster spot.

Now that Bilukidi apparently has the proper credentials in place, the Bengals signed him to a deal on Wednesday and released Randall.

Bilukidi was a sixth round draft pick of the Oakland Raiders last year and appeared in 13 games before being released on Oct. 23. He has 13 tackles and a pass defense in his two seasons in the league.

How did he play previously? Have to wonder what the snag was?

They must really like something in this guy to go after him like that. Hopefully Zimmer can pull whatever he can out of him and turn him into a good depth guy.

Low risk signing. If they want him enough to go back to him, they must expect to get a high reward out of him.

Good news. Seems like adequate fodder for the Steelers D-line dominance.

He’s a defensive tackle. DT’s don’t usually go up against other d lines you see…. oh, nevermind. I can’t use crayons to properly illustrate this for a Steelers fan.

What this means is that Biluikidi cannot be picked off the Bengals’ practice squad by another team since the work permit would have to identify that team in order to be a valid visa.

At least the league would have to void the pick… if they played by fair rules.
