Every football team needs to find a way to come together. For the Redskins, the team has become united by a media that dared to point out their divisions.
“Everything is positive, only negative thing is the people around us trying to make things negative,” receiver Santana Moss said Thursday, via J.P. Finlay of CSNWashington.com.
“You can’t let people on the outside try to bring your shine down,” Moss said. “They don’t know what you got going on, they just hear things and try to speculate and try to make things bigger than they are.”
That’s coming from the same guy who explained, only two days ago, that if he were a quarterback or leader on the team, he wouldn’t blame others, an observation sparked by quarterback Robert Griffin III blaming others for his mistakes on Sunday against the Eagles.
Receiver Pierre Garçon, who has done a little pot-stirring himself this year, joined in on the us-against-the-press message. “We already know what the media is trying to do,” Garçon said, “it’s 100 percent untrue. Guys blow up things and make it more because of the area we live in.”
In this case, the words grabbed attention in the media because they were attention-grabbing words. And while we credit the Redskins for finding a way to get on the same page as they remain viable candidates to win the NFC Least, the argument is hollow and flawed. But if it helps the team win some games, it’s not a bad strategy at all.
