St. Louis Rams rookie safety T.J. McDonald returned to practice on Wednesday as he works his way back from a fractured leg that landed him on the injured reserve/designated to return list earlier this season.

McDonald was injured in the team’s Week 4 loss to the San Francisco 49ers. The team placed him on short-term injured reserve on Sept. 27 making his ineligible for the next eight weeks of the season.

McDonald is eligible to practice with the team for the next two weeks but can’t play in a game just yet. St. Louis’ rematch with the 49ers on Dec. 1 is the first game McDonald will be eligible to play in.

He’s coming along,” head coach Jeff Fisher said, via Nick Wagoner of ESPN.com. “He did a lot of work last week outside and inside. It’s a confidence factor now, but we’ll continue to give him reps.”

McDonald had recorded 18 tackles and two passes defensed in his first four games before the injury.
