Coach says Manziel to reveal draft decision before bowl game

Manziel

Everyone knows that Johnny Manziel won’t return to Texas A&M next year. On Friday, his current head coach said that Manziel will make his decision officially known before the team’s bowl game.

“We haven’t had that conversation,” Aggies coach Kevin Sumlin told ESPN Radio’s SVP & Russillo regarding whether Manziel has said he’s leaving. “My job is to get him all the facts that we can get him. We’ll have that discussion after the Missouri game, certainly during the bowl preparation. I’m sure the announcement will be made at that time.”

Questions about getting paid to sign autographs quickly evaporated once the season began, and Manziel has yet again performed at a high level.

“He’s handled things on the field as well as any player in the country,” Sumlin said. “His numbers are better than they were last year. And I’ve had a number of people tell me there’s no more exciting college football player in the country than he is, and he’s the guy they like to watch.

“He’s a special talent. His energy, his leadership on the team is evident, and he continues to get better every week.”

Anything other than a decision to enter the draft will be a shock. Apart from making it known that he’s ready to leave College Station, there’s nothing more Manziel can prove by staying at Texas A&M.

In fact, not striking when the NFL iron is glowing could raise questions about whether he truly loves the thought of competing at the highest level of the sport.
