Jerry Jones wants Cowboys’ offense to play like they practice

Cowboys owner and General Manager Jerry Jones was adamant during the offseason that quarterback Tony Romo and offensive coordinator Bill Callahan would have a greater role this season in shaping the offense, and that we’d see a more innovative offensive attack out of Dallas.

So how are the results? Jones says he liked what he saw in training camp and the preseason, and he likes what he sees in practice, but he wants to see it on the field.

I saw it really good in preseason,’’ Jones said, via the Dallas Morning News. “I saw it good in training camp. And I’ve seen it good here in game preparation. I have seen us limited in sometimes what we practice out there as to getting that to the field during the game. That’s one of the things that we reviewed and are trying to get better at, to get those adjustments that we have made offensively to actually get that involved in the game.’’

Jones sounds a little disappointed that the offense in the regular season hasn’t looked the way he envisioned before the season.

“The more we can do that means things are going as planned and we’ll be better if we can get a lot of the things we’ve practiced on and implemented during the offseason on the field,’’ Jones said.

Whatever disappointment Jones has about the offense, they don’t affect Jones’s opinion of head coach Jason Garrett, who will return in 2014.

Shut up Jerry!!! Besides, your only chance of getting your offense to play like they practice is 16 games vs the Jaguars..

Or you could ask the opponents nicely if they would use your defense.

    Take your pick

  2. jburk003 says: Nov 23, 2013 11:14 AM

I’d worry about that putrid defense of yours, not the offense.

Especially considering you have a QB whom is prime to turning the ball over.

Since 1996 the Cowboys are 133-133 with one playoff game. That’s the sign of a failing franchise.

Cowboys won’t break the drought until J.Jones steps down or dies

  3. texastornado82 says: Nov 23, 2013 11:15 AM

yeah ummm, Jerrah, Tony is playing against the worst defense in NFL, in practice.

  4. ttommytom says: Nov 23, 2013 11:16 AM

    Dear Mr. Jones,

You should be quiet and supportive and let them play without the extra pressure you seem to find every chance you get.

    your friend,

    Mr. Mara

  5. bennyb82 says: Nov 23, 2013 11:16 AM

The offense looks good when you get down by a lot so Jerry told his defense to stop trying so hard.

  6. deathonwings410 says: Nov 23, 2013 11:17 AM

Problem is, they’re playing the Cowboys horrible defense in practice.

  8. righthereisay says: Nov 23, 2013 11:20 AM

My son always hits the baseball great in practice, I swear!

  9. detectivejimmymcnulty says: Nov 23, 2013 11:20 AM

Has Jerry ever been more than two days without saying something in the media? For having the brain of a 40 year old he still can’t comprehend that the defense is the problem. Kiffin’s style of D was effective when football was run balanced.

  10. bassnw says: Nov 23, 2013 11:22 AM

Cowboys…favorite team of people who know nothing about football….

  12. sportfanz says: Nov 23, 2013 11:23 AM

Jerry Jones and Al Davis… both stayed involved in the day-to-day much too long. Neither of them recognizing that they are/were the problem. Enjoy the mediocrity Dallas fans… it only gets worse – just ask Raider fans.

  13. denverwhodat says: Nov 23, 2013 11:23 AM

Stop speaking Jerrah… are punchline buffoon as a GM

  14. dcredz says: Nov 23, 2013 11:23 AM

News flash everyone: offenses look different against practice squad and 2nd/3rd string players.

  15. 1rockyracoon says: Nov 23, 2013 11:23 AM

The offense looks great in practice according to Jones. Who do they practice against? Oh yeah, your defense. Unfortunately, you have play against other teams in order to win games.

  16. thinredline69 says: Nov 23, 2013 11:24 AM

Jerry also wants the media to give him props for what a great job he’s doing as GM…sorry Mr. Jones, it’s not happening.

  17. daysend564 says: Nov 23, 2013 11:24 AM

Give them a better defense to practice against. Maybe they won’t look so good.

  18. thejuddstir says: Nov 23, 2013 11:25 AM

Somebody needs to tell Jerrah that in practice Romo wears a red vest, defense doesn’t hit and tackle so it’s always easier to “look good in practice.” Kinda like jerrah looks professional in public but how does he look every morning before his daily botox.

  19. vbe2 says: Nov 23, 2013 11:26 AM

Yeah, only against themselves. That way they can always win.

  20. MichaelEdits says: Nov 23, 2013 11:27 AM

It sounds like he needs to fire his GM

  21. doubleogator says: Nov 23, 2013 11:29 AM

That’s funny, they play against themselves in practice, now if they could just play themselves in the regular season…..

  22. jimr10 says: Nov 23, 2013 11:29 AM

Jerry, thanks for providing a lot of us lots of are one of a kind..

  24. beefsbrother says: Nov 23, 2013 11:31 AM

I’ve stopped feeling bad for Cowboys fans because they keep showing up every week. You are not being a ‘bad fan’ by demonstrating your frustration in the only way owners understand – by hitting their wallet.

  25. Eli on Injured Reserve says: Nov 23, 2013 11:34 AM

That’s because they don’t have all of their ‘Glory-Holes’, ‘Special Sauce’ and ‘Coming-Outs’ available during the games like they do at practice. Maybe London’s Team should start playing like they practice.

  26. tinbender2000 says: Nov 23, 2013 11:34 AM

I’m sure glad he talks to the media, because you just couldn’t make this stuff up

  27. kennyadler1 says: Nov 23, 2013 11:36 AM

Somebody needs to tell Jerry that the defense that offense practices against is TERRIBLE….that may have something to do with how good the offense is in “practice”

  28. antneejay2 says: Nov 23, 2013 11:38 AM

You’re doing a heck of a job, Jerry, but I think you need to become more involved. I’m sure most Eagles, Skins and Giants fans would be on board with it.

  29. mayorrobford says: Nov 23, 2013 11:40 AM

All you Cowboy fans crying about Jerry should stop supporting the team and stop going to the games. Otherwise shut up

Jerry Jones wants Cowboys’ offense to play like they practice—————where will they find a crappy def. like dallas every week?

  32. hawkforlife says: Nov 23, 2013 11:47 AM

“The more we can do that means things are going as planned and we’ll be better if we can get a lot of the things we’ve practiced on and implemented during the offseason on the field,’’ Jones said.

It’s week 12 Jerry. If you haven’t done it by now I doubt you can any time soon. But don’t give up there’s a new off season for you just around the corner.

  33. mayorrobford says: Nov 23, 2013 11:48 AM

This is Cowboy fans future, more of the same until Jerry steps down and lets his idiot son continue more of the same. The Cowboys are going to be the Bengals, a family owned team that allows stupid know-nothing family members to run the show.

Boycott the Cowboys, maybe if enough of yas smarten up and leave the stadium empty, he will sell, otherwise you’re going to suffer for the rest of your time on Earth.

  34. northstarnic says: Nov 23, 2013 11:48 AM

It’s too bad the opposition doesn’t trot out their second stringers. Romo & friends look so good against non-starters when there is nothing on the line.

  35. thetooloftools says: Nov 23, 2013 11:49 AM

They already do… they go 1/2 speed.

  36. phukurmouf says: Nov 23, 2013 11:50 AM

Awesome! Another jerry jones has spoken daily update. Am i the only one sick of hearing what this babbling buffoon has to say?? The dallas cowboys are avg team nothing more. Why the media treats them like they have 10 win seasons with playoff berths every yr is beyond me. Be like getting cleveland browns updates everyday. So please spare the pft followers what jerry jones has to stay about his overrated team.

Thank you for your cooperation in this matter.

  37. weepingjebus says: Nov 23, 2013 11:52 AM

I don’t know how they concentrate at all with that giant Radiation King hanging over the field. I’d be constantly expecting it to tear loose and crush the team.

  39. bert1913 says: Nov 23, 2013 12:00 PM

  40. SparkyGump says: Nov 23, 2013 12:06 PM

  41. thesmedman says: Nov 23, 2013 12:07 PM

(One might wonder what ounce of dignity Garrett had for being “Coach Jones'” fool, but then again, he does have a few million reasons…)

  46. ericn42000 says: Nov 23, 2013 12:26 PM

We’ll jerrah u do realize that the offence looks great in practice because, they are practicing against one of the worst defenses in the league!

  47. skinsgal4life says: Nov 23, 2013 12:33 PM

Maybe the offense of the Cow Piles doesn’t play as well in real games because it is facing a true defense instead of their own guys–a defense that allowed a record number of first downs against the Saints! Yippee!

  48. jammer73 says: Nov 23, 2013 12:36 PM

JJ should hire Leslie Frazier as his head coach. Like Jerry, Frazier never fails to mention how good the team looks in practice at his weekly press conferences.

  49. citizenstrange says: Nov 23, 2013 12:42 PM

“We’re talking about practice. I mean listen, we’re sitting here talking about practice, not a game, not a game, not a game, but we’re talking about practice. Not the game that I go out there and die for and play every game like it’s my last but we’re talking about practice man.” — Allen Iverson

  50. sportsfan18 says: Nov 23, 2013 12:44 PM

Uh Jerry, practice is not game speed or anything like real game action.

  51. ripster65 says: Nov 23, 2013 12:52 PM

I wonder if any other owners ever speak? I guess they do but apparently whatever they say makes enough sense but all JJ has to do is open his mouth and we’re guaranteed a good laugh. Is he really interviewed as often as we see these silly stories about him or does he just go out of his way to voluntarily blurt nonsense? Did he really get interviewed the other day and get asked about Jason Garrett and then again the very next day about the job he’s doing as a GM and again yesterday about the Cowboys offense? This guy has ruined the Cowboys and I really do feel for their fans. As a Niner fan living in Tx, most of my friends are Cowboys fans and every single one of them is resigned to the fact that Dallas will never be worth a mention as long a JJ’s running the show. As long as Dallas remains one of the top $$$ making franchises in the world, Jerry the businessman is doing great.

  52. razzol says: Nov 23, 2013 12:57 PM

Jason will stay until Jerry finds another puppet or yes man he likes better

  54. foothillfrank says: Nov 23, 2013 12:58 PM

Obviously one reason the Cowboys offense impresses Jones in practice is because it plays against the COWBOYS DEFENSE.

  55. tim581981 says: Nov 23, 2013 1:12 PM

The offense would play the way they practice if every team had aninjury plauged defense like the cowboys. Jerry needs to just be an owner hes clueless

  58. sportnorcal says: Nov 23, 2013 1:54 PM

“Jerry Jones wants Cowboys’ offense to play like they practice”

I think all teams would like to play against their own defense, whom they know, and who isn’t allowed to hit them.

  59. chinahand11 says: Nov 23, 2013 2:00 PM

I can’t understand why this man opens his mouth. He always makes things worse. Man, I wish my high school team played in our real games as well as we did in practice. We would have won every game and had five or six guys rush over 1000 yards.

  60. logic4sale says: Nov 23, 2013 2:00 PM

Jerry Jones is the death of the Dallas Cowboys and will be until the death of Jerry Jones. The really disappointing part is his son is heir to the team. Hopefully Stephen is less concerned with his ego and more concerned about winning. Like all good fans, I’ll just ride it out and hope for the best.

  61. usdcoyotesfan says: Nov 23, 2013 2:06 PM

I guess the offense gets lots of moral victories in practice.

  62. iltibido says: Nov 23, 2013 2:21 PM

  64. dhardy8207 says: Nov 23, 2013 2:46 PM

  65. delshofner says: Nov 23, 2013 2:52 PM

  68. seachicken64 says: Nov 23, 2013 3:01 PM

And I want competent, honest people running our government. And for the Kardashians to be sent to colonize Mars (anything further away would be ok too). Maybe Jerry should “want” a GM who doesn’t suck – that would be progress. I think he’s had all that plastic surgery just so he doesn’t even have to look at himself in the mirror.

Often good businessmen (and whatever you think of Jerry Jones you have to give him that) take over sports teams and quickly find out that their business acumen does not always lead to good sports management; usually their business instincts take over and they find people with the right qualifications to take over. It’s interesting that Jones just won’t take the hint despite many years of great expectations resulting in crushing disappointments….still get the feeling he desperately needs to show Jimmy Johnson he can get it done without him and the players he brought in…..
