The Patriots waived running back Leon Washington on Saturday. The move was disclosed in the NFL’s daily transactions.

The 31-year-old Washington, a long-time special-teams ace, has appeared in two games as a reserve for New England in 2013.

In a corresponding roster move, the Patriots promoted rookie defensive back Justin Green from their practice squad. An undrafted free agent from Illinois, Green (5-11, 195) has been on the Patriots’ practice squad throughout the season.

The Patriots have three cornerbacks on the injury report: Aqib Talib (hip), Alfonso Dennard (knee) and Kyle Arrington (groin). Safety Steve Gregory (finger) is also on the report.
