With a second-quarter catch against the Colts, Cardinals wide receiver Larry Fitzgerald became the youngest player in NFL history to gain 11,000 yards receiving in regular-season play, the club said.
Fitzgerald, 30, reached the mark with a 16-yard reception on 3rd-and-14 late in the first half against visiting Indianapolis. The catch was a key play on a drive ending in a 50-yard field goal that gave Arizona a commanding 27-3 halftime lead.
The Cardinals called timeout after the catch. Fitzgerald asked for the ball, and threw it to the sideline as a keepsake. The crowd cheered its appreciation of Fitzgerald, who has played his entire career with the Cardinals, and Fitzgerald’s teammates congratulated him during the stoppage of play.
According to the the CBS telecast of the game, Fitzgerald (30 years, 85 days old) is only the second NFL player to rack up 11,000 receiving yards by age 30, with Randy Moss (30 days, 222 yards) the other to pull it off.
