When Giants receiver Hakeem Nicks missed practice this week with a groin injury, rumors circulated that he may have a sports hernia.
He doesn’t, per a source with knowledge of the situation.
Nicks explained that he skipped Wednesday’s session to have the groin/abdominal discomfort checked by a doctor.
Since a sports hernia can be fixed only by surgical intervention, Nicks would be far more likely to get the surgery done now. Waiting until after the season would serve only to make it harder for Nicks to get healthy before hitting the open market.
While some would say that Nicks shouldn’t be worried about his future, teams routinely make player decisions based on their short-term and long-term interests. Players should be entitled to do the same.
