Roughriders, Tiger-Cats meet in Grey Cup game Sunday

Henry Burris AP

As the NFL’s late-afternoon games heat up, the CFL’s championship game will kick off in Regina, Saskatchewan. And it will be a home game of sorts for the Saskatchewan Roughriders, who face the Hamilton Tiger-Cats in the 101st Grey Cup game.

NBCSN will air the Grey Cup, which begins at 6 p.m. Eastern.

For NFL fans, there may be some familiar names on both clubs.

Notable Roughriders with past NFL connections include quarterback Darian Durant, running back Kory Sheets, linebacker Tyron Brackenridge and defensive ends John Chick and Alex Hall.

For the Tiger-Cats, wide receiver Luke Tasker and quarterbacks Henry Burris and Dan LeFevour are among the players whom NFL observers may recall.

Even with a healthy hip…. Akili Quinn wouldn’t be starting for either of these teams.

Tiger-Cats is the most over-explanatory team name I’ve ever seen.

“We’re the Tigers. Thats a type of cat, ya know. It’s a Tiger-Cat. And thats us.”

Thats like Canada naming the Winnipeg Jets the Winnipeg Jet-Planes.

I still don’t know how a nation can have a nine team professional football league with one named Roughriders and another named Rough Riders. Who is the second team that decided they also wanted to some version of a Rough Rider?
