The Buccaneers have signed former Bears tight end Kyle Adams, the club said Wednesday.

Adams is a needed addition to a position thinned by injury. The 6-foot-4, 255-pound Adams perhaps could contribute with rookie Tim Wright (6-3, 220) in two-TE sets. At present, they are the only tight ends on the Buccaneers’ active roster.

A third tight end, Matt Veldman, is on the Bucs’ practice squad.

Adams, 25, appeared in 24 regular-season NFL games with Chicago from 2011 through 2013. He played 11 snaps on offense and 14 snaps on special teams in the Bears’ season-opening win vs. Cincinnati, then was waived the next day.

Wright, 23, is second on the Bucs in catches (34), receiving yards (366) and targets (44).

Three Buccaneers tight ends are on injured reserve: Nate Byham, Tom Crabtree and Luke Stocker.
