Dez says his ball security is fine, blames fumble on the cold

Cowboys owner Jerry Jones thinks receiver Dez Bryant’s fumbling problems are a result of his violent running style, and his need to hold the ball close to his body. Bryant doesn’t see it that way.

Bryant said he thinks he’s holding the ball properly, but it’s just hard to hang on in a game as cold as Sunday’s win over the Giants in New Jersey.

“I think my ball security, in my honest opinion has been fine,” Bryant told reporters, via the Dallas Morning News. “It was just that kind of a game to where you have to be a little bit more prepared focusing on what kind of difficulties it will be in the cold weather handling the ball. You just got to prepare a little bit better knowing you will be in the game.”

As reporters continued to ask Bryant about himself, he declined.

“We did win that game as a team. It’s not all about me, not to be rude,” Bryant said.

Nothing rude about that. Even if Jones may not want to hear that one of his players contradicted him.

I’m sure it was the cold weather (God’s fault) and certainly not any fault of Dez!

For all the grilling Dez has taken, most of it is because of the fact he plays on the Cowboys. Had he been drafted by the Browns or Bills and putting up these numbers, he would be known as a great receiver, with a fiery passion for the game. But instead he plays under the microscope of Dallas, where every step (and misstep) a player takes is scrutinized for the entire week.

With all of that being said, I love having Dez on this team. He’s matured quite rapidly and become a mentor to Terrence Williams, who I think has the ability to be a pleasant complement to Dez.

Newsflash Mr Bryant – the playoffs that you hope to play in are mostly outdoors in the cold, as the Super Bowl this year too.

Good luck if you can’t hold onto the ball in the cold

Jerry and Dez should stop talking. The more they talk, the dumber they sound.

Dez,the good thing is that this will not be a problem for you in January.

  7. doctorrustbelt says: Nov 27, 2013 9:18 AM

Interesting how neither Romo or Manning fumbled the ball while handling the ball on every offensive play.

It is getting a lot warmer around the country, so he should be fine come December.

  10. doctorrustbelt says: Nov 27, 2013 9:24 AM

That said…. Dez Bryant had 102 yards and the fumble WAS NOT a turnover IN A DALLAS WIN.

Annoying Victor Cruz had 27 yards and fumbled to the opponents and his team lost.

So…. get off Dez Bryant’s jock about the fumble.

Dez will give you something to write about if you’re patient.

Don’t worry about being rude, Dez. most if the arrogant punks asking you stupid questions sure aren’t worried about being rude.

Did any other Boys fans not have a freak out when Dez CAUGHT the ball at the end of the game on like the 4 yd line and they called it an incomplete catch, then Garret doesn’t challenge, they take a timeout, they still don’t challenge. The Cowboys aren’t that good to give up plays such as this.

NOT a Garrett fan at all, but inside 2 minutes he can’t challenge. It is both review only. That’s why he called time out hoping they would review the catch.

  19. redbirdsrising says: Nov 27, 2013 10:07 AM

So he only has ball security problems in the cold? Um, that means he has ball security problems.

I hate the Cowboys, Dez, Romo, Emmitt, Irvin, Moose, the whole lot them. But when its that cold, fumbles do happen. Its like carrying a concrete block.

You do realize it was in the final two minutes of the game, and Jason Garrett could NOT challenge it right. Garrett was pissed to, that the booth didn’t review what was surely a catch. However, they won anyway.

  23. bluebongzilla says: Nov 27, 2013 10:46 AM

When asked, Victor Cruz said that it wasn’t cold weather that made him fumble and give up a defensive TD that made the difference in the game, it was the fact that he spends too much time yapping, mugging for the camera and perfecting his TD dance and too little time trying to get better.

But he ain’t tryin’ to think ’bout that.

Dallas is like that, with Chandeliers, and expensive carpeting.

I have not forgotten that is was a 100million dollar
loss in a “business deal” with Michael Jackson that broke the Sullivan’s, forced the sale of the team.

It’s not because they all themselves America’s Team. It’s because they’re the Cowboys. The flagship team of the NFL. They’re always at the top of merchandise sales, even when they’re bad. Teams that can’t sell out their own stadiums have sell outs when the Cowboys come to town. Every time the Cowboys lose, it’s a big deal because it’s like whatever team beat them just won the Super Bowl. Every other NFCE teams’ main rival is the Cowboys. While Eagles, Redskins and Giants fans revel in moral victories, every Cowboys fan sees every season that doesn’t end with a Super Bowl win as a failure. Even though they haven’t won the Super Bowl since January of 1996, Jerry Jones still has more Super Bowl rings than all other NFCE team owners combined.

P.S. The Cowboys are 3-1 against the Giants since sniveling John Mara tried to hamstring them for violating rules that didn’t exist.

Only Jones has as many Super Bowl rings as Kraft, doesn’t he? If you include the one that Bob gave away.

And Jones didn’t have to threaten to move the team to get those chandeliers and expensive carpeting. It’s ok to be jelly.

Didn’t have to cheat to get the rings, either. And he darn sure didn’t give any of them to a former KGB agent.

At least he admits that he was ill prepared and unfocused. Was this his first game in cold weather?

  31. bluebongzilla says: Nov 27, 2013 1:45 PM

9 catches for 102 yards is pretty good for a guy that was “ill prepared and unfocused”, though. He could have just said that Giants DB’s are punks and hold all the time and he wouldn’t have been wrong.

  32. bluebongzilla says: Nov 27, 2013 1:50 PM

9 catches for 102 yards is pretty good for a guy that was “ill prepared and unfocused”. He could have just sniveled, and said such-and-such DB holds all the time. Anybody who has played in really cold weather knows that it not only affects your hands, it affects the football, and there’s only so much you can do to prepare for it.

  33. bluebongzilla says: Nov 27, 2013 2:00 PM

“May Garrett and Romo and Jones be in Dallas forever!!
    —Eagles Fan.”

You realize they have a winning record over the Eagles since Garrett took the job, right? Romo has a pretty lopsided career winning record as a starter against the Eagles, too.

But I guess that’s why you’re an Eagles fan.

  34. jhop86 says: Nov 27, 2013 2:54 PM

That’s true when it’s cold you can’t feel your hands and defenses go after the ball like two bears fighting over a fish he won’t fumble next week

  35. ialwayswantedtobeabanker says: Nov 27, 2013 4:13 PM

That’s the reason guys where cups and jocks – it’s all about “ball security.”
