Buccaneers linebacker Lavonte David’s season got off to a bad start, but he’s making up for it over the course of the year.

David was named NFC defensive player of the week after a monster game against the Lions, the latest in a string of strong performances. He’s played well enough lately his game-killing penalty against the Jets in the opener is nearly forgotten.

David had 12 tackles, an interception, a forced fumble and a pass defensed against the Lions.

He has 5.0 sacks and two interceptions on the season, making him one of just six players in franchise history to post those totals in a season (along with defensive end Gaines Adams, cornerback Ronde Barber, defensive end Simeon Rice, defensive tackle Warren Sapp and linebacker Broderick Thomas.

Gaines Adams, well my day just got slightly more depressing.

Best young LB in the NFL. Carolina fans can thumb this down all they want, but its the truth. Only JJ Watt has more tackles for loss in the last two years.

Still can’t believe he fell to the Bucs in the 2nd round after the career he had at Nebraska.

You are lucky cause the Lions should have drafted him instead of Ryan Broyles. I’m still pissed off about that pick. And I liked Broyles! But not in the 2nd round ahead of guys like David. These NFL scouts are absolutely atrocious on so many teams. Most of these guys have no real clue how hot scout talent, and so you see TONS of horrible picks in the 1st and 2nd Round EVERY single year. It’s really annoying and pathetic to me.

Congrats on your team not blowing the draft pick.

Lavonte David is the most underrated players for the second year. Glad hes finally being noticed for an award. Compare his stats to other linebackers and tell me why he shouldn’t be in the pro bowl.

David should have made the pro bowl last year. And has to be a lock this year….David>Keuchley

Lavonte David is a BEAST. Not a big hitter, but the guy makes plays and tackles EVERYWHERE on the field.

I’ll take that over a highlight reel hit any day.

We’re still not even from the Lions stealing Calvin Johnson from us.. Lol

Well as far as I’m concerned, both the Lions and Bucs are way behind on accomplishing stuff. Both teams are uneven to me, just in general. Maybe we should just combine teams and then we can have enough players for one complete 53 man roster! 🙂
